๐Ÿš‚ Welcome To Heritage Operations 4537 ๐Ÿš‚

๐ŸŽ‰ Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre would like to Congratulate The Picnic Train on there most recent heritage acquisition Diesel Locomotive 4537.

โณIn 1964 Locomotive 4537 was built as a standard gauge diesel electric mainline locomotive for the Department of Railways NSW, Originally built by AE Goodwin as a part of the NSWGR 45 class fleet.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ In 1995 it had been sold to Junee Railway Workshops which it had been heavily rebuilt with a lowered and shortened No.1 end for industrial work,
Which it shortly after entered service as 103.

๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿš‚ Today 4537 has found its forever home in heritage operations with The Picnic Train and we at GRHC want to congratulate the team at The Picnic Train & canโ€™t wait to see it working mainline tours.

๐Ÿค We are also excited to be able collaborate with The Picnic Train in events past & upcoming ๐Ÿ‘€ โ€ฆ
So keep an eye out for upcoming announcements.

๐Ÿ“ฑGo check out The Picnic Train social media pages & website to find out more about this amazing locomotive and whatโ€™s to come.

๐Ÿš‚ Locomotive 1076 has a long and interesting history, today's post will cover some of the important maintenance and developments that have taken place since the engines arrival at Goulburn Roundhouse.

โณ In 2005 the NSW Government reviewed their collection of moveable rail assets and decided that 1076 was deemed a surplus to requirements, and was deaccessioned through an EOI (expressions of interest) process.

๐Ÿงญ November 4th, 2009, the small-wheeled tank engine was transferred to Goulburn Roundhouse for cosmetic restoration and display. Upon arrival volunteers assessed the suitability to return to service.

โš™ In 2009 the locomotive was dismantled for overhaul to operating condition.
Restoration was in the final stages in 2016, and 1076 started undergoing steam trials.

๐Ÿ“œ A new boiler certificate for 1076 was successfully obtained by Goulburn Roundhouse in 2017.

๐Ÿฅณ In August, 2025, 1076 was in steam to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Goulburn Locomotive Preservation Society held at Goulburn Rail Museum and Roundhouse.

๐Ÿ›  The high sides of the replacement welded bunker, fitted during 1076โ€™s allocation at Reids Hill Depot at Port Kembla, have been removed. The cabs rear spectacle sheet has also been removed, leaving the cab open at the rear.

๐Ÿ–‡1076โ€™s certification for operation does not permit the engine to move under its own power, instead, the locomotive is coupled to a diesel when it needs repositioning.

๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ’ซ 1076 is currently fully overhauled and returning to stationary steam operations. The immaculately restored locomotive features at steam events hosted at Goulburn Roundhouse, the train engine is on permanent static display and is accessible to the public during our tours.

๐Ÿ“ฑ We will be sharing more information about 1076 on Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre & Roundhouse's social media platforms. This locomotive has a long and complex history, and we look forward to sharing that history with our followers.

โฐ Our tour times are 10am - 2:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
Thank you, A.W ๐Ÿ™‚

Changes to the GRHC page

For years I have been managing this page on my own, and (I admit) the management could have been much better.

We now have a dedicated management team that will take over the control and posting on this site.

I will step back and take on other tasks at the GRHC, including the love of my life, our very own 1076. My dream is to one day be able to legally drive this locomotive around the Roundhouse precinct.

Here's to the future!

GLRPS Member since 1987
