Established in 1992. Located opposite the Mulgrave Sugar Mill.

Visit and discover our local history.
Head towards the sugar mill in Gordonvale, across the train and cane crossing you will find the museum carpark on the left hand side. This building was purpose-built to house objects used by settlers in the area then called Nelson in the late 1800s. The aboriginal, miners' and timber cutters

' displays are realistically set against a 40 metre rainforest backdrop. There is a fully equipped blacksmith's workshop. Furniture and homemakers' aides in the pioneer woman's domain demonstrate the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the era, plus a few luxuries. Boats and pack horses brought supplies through Packers Camp to the goldfields, and artifacts hold many memories. Documents recording lives of early settlers are a useful resource for genealogy research. School children can engage with their local history, see some of the tools their grandparents actually used and learn of the impact on the community of the 503rd Parachute Regiment based there during World War Two. A hand-crafted Chinese Joss is in safe keeping along with memorabilia from prominent local citizens. The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, however is closed from December and January (Queensland Christmas School Holidays). Adults - $5.00, Seniors - $4.00, and children $3.00

Two more former Gordonvale Girl Guides, Anne Hesp and Helen McGuigan visited our display. Anne spent about three years as a Brownie and then a Guide in the early 1970s. She is pictured holding her belt which she lent for the display. Anne’s sisters, Helen and Alison were also Brownies.

Helen Mcguigan and her sister Katherine were both awarded their Queen’s Guides in 1975. Helen lived and worked in Ireland where she was a Guides Deputy Leader in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin from 2003 to 2017. Helen lent us her Guide blouse, which she is pictured wearing.

The Autograph Book has been reunited with family.

Thanks to all that shared our post back in February as the 1937 Autograph Book has been Returned to Family.

Remember autograph books? An autograph book that was started in 1937 by a young Gordonvale girl, was left in the family home when the house was sold in 1983 to a future museum volunteer, Betty.
This year, Betty decided to donate the book to the MSHS. As a result, the family was successfully traced and reunited at the Mulgrave History Museum. They were delighted to take possession of the book. In return, they gave the society family photos to be scanned and added to our archives.

Photo: Daughter-in-law and son of the book’s owner with Betty.
