Spring holidays are here! Are you heading away in your caravan and if so, where are you off to!? This retro caravan is in the backyard of a Mermaid Waters home, circa late 1970s. Besides the caravan we also love the breeze blocks, hills hoist and sprinkler! All standard items in many backyards 50 years ago.

William Boag glass plate photo of our very own Veivers Cottage (a replica onsite). The clarity in this image is quite something with the 2 figures in the background very clear. Eliza's husband, Robert died at 39 in 1871 and while the figures in the back are wearing black, Eliza and her children aren't. Eliza would have only been around 29 years old in this image. After Robert's death she married Mr Smith of Benowa and had another 6 children!

We have a Museum pop-up stall at the Chevron Island Street Party on Sunday.

Come and say hi to some of our Volunteers including Lyn and John who will be playing the part of "Goat Island" farmers. Hope to see you there!

The Museum will also be open for our usual Sunday opening times.

Who knew a cream separator was so noisy and heavy to turn!? Charlie D grew up on a crop farm in Daisy Hill and visited today with his wife Edna and their daughter. He is a wealth of knowledge and had so many stories to share! At a spritely 83, Charlie agreed that growing up on the farm and doing hard manual labour as a youngster probably gave him a good foundation. Apparently when the cream is separated there is only about 3% cream; but it depends on the cow :-)

The Museum site

In 1990 Scott Derrick, respected journalist, historian and confidant of local Aboriginal people, gave a talk to yr 4 students at the Museum during "History week". Here is an excerpt discussing the land on which the Museum now resides, along with some Indigenous lore. "This area was a gathering spot, they came here on regular journeys and when they met, this was one of their meeting spots....
