On your bikes!

Good old fashioned fun at the Museum these school holidays. Leave the phone in the car and bring the kids for a look around and marvel at how people lived prior to screens, electricity etc! It's fascinating, but survive and thrive they did. Feel free to bring a picnic rug and set up on the grass for morning tea or a picnic lunch.

This photo from 1946 was taken outside "Stop n Shop" at Labrador by Norm Hasemann. L - R Joan McAnally, Yvonne Smith, June Chirn and Dawn Hasemann.

Visit the Gold Coast Historical Museum's website to check our read my brief history of the first music recording and playing devices.

By Judd VeseyToday, I have found myself appreciating the impact music plays in my life and society as a whole. We have the luxury of listening to music wherever and whenever we want. The sheer amou…

We're open tomorrow, Sunday 28 September, as part of Gold Coast Open House. 10am - 3pm

Bring the children / grandchildren and step back in time to see what type of home the local pioneers lived in!

Shown here is our replica of Veivers Cottage, built by timber getter Robert Veivers near the bank of the Nerang River in 1861 for his 19 year old Irish bride, Eliza O'Toole. They had 4 children before Robert died at just 39 years of age. His widow remarried a local farmer, Henry Smith of Ashmore Farm and together had 6 children.

We will be CLOSED Sunday 7 September and apologise in advance for any inconvenience. Spring has sprung however, and it is the perfect time to explore the natural beauty of the Gold Coast. Just north of the Museum, along Bundall Road, is Vespa Park. Prior to European settlement it formed part of a large midden of the Kombumerri tribe that extended all the way from the Museum grounds. As with the block on which the Museum is located, you can still see the formation of the sand dunes, now covered in grass.
