Cavalcade’s founding members had the significant foresight to recognise the heritage significance of the collection by recording the provenance of acquisitions and retaining the name of the gown’s owner. Dedicated work of committed volunteers, with guidance from museum advisors, has enabled maintenance of a full schedule of community events and exhibitions whilst ensuring that the collection is co

nserved to the highest standards. The collection, through a ‘Museum without Walls’ philosophy, brings history alive with parades, presentations and displays & exhibitions. Our philosophy has inspired the public to donate family heirlooms. When each gown is donated, a record is made of the donor and original wearer’s history, where they lived, who their family was, where they wore the gown and what made the gown a family heirloom. The collection and associated provenance is an outstanding record of the social history of Australian women and their families, using fashion as a medium.

✨ What a wonderful afternoon! ✨
A huge thank you to the amazing members of the Epping/Eastwood Country Women’s Association for inviting 👗 Cavalcade of History and Fashion to be part of their celebration of 100 years of service to the community.
On Saturday, the CWA also raised funds for New South Wales Disaster Relief and Emergency Funds, supporting communities in times of need. ❤️
👗 Cavalcade of History and Fashion was delighted to present 80 years of fashion, showcasing styles from the glamorous 1920s through to the fashionable 2000s. It was a joy to share this journey through history and see so many people enjoying the presentation.
Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, organised, and supported the event. Your enthusiasm and generosity helped make it a truly successful and memorable occasion.

World
Environment Day
Hilda made this patchwork dress in the 1940s using fabric scraps from her grandmother's haberdashery—right next to the family grocery store in Naremburn.
Born in 1913 to English immigrants, Hilda was one of five children. She worked as a secretary in Sydney, and during the war ran a newspaper in Katoomba and later a radio station in Ayr, Queensland.
Her dress tells a story of resilience, creativity, and making something beautiful from what's already there.
A reminder this World Environment Day: sustainability isn't new—it's always been part of our story.
