Eromanga Natural History Museum The Eromanga Natural History Museum, home of Australia's largest dinosaur, discovering dinosaur and megafauna fossils and showcasing them in southwest Qld.

There is a treasure trove of internationally significant dinosaur and megafauna fossils in southwest Queensland. These fossils tell us stories about Australia's biggest animals - the titanosaurs and marsupials including the diprotodon - that have been dug up just outside Eromanga and Eulo. The Outback Gondwana Foundation has been digging, researching and preparing these fossils since 2004 and plan

to build a museum in the region to display the finds for children, scientists, tourists and, of course, the locals. The aim: to preserve southwest Queensland's fossil heritage and keep these valuable fossils in the region where they were found. The Eromanga Natural History Museum meets the international standard for museums and upholds the highest level of scientific integrity. The Museum receives vital funding from Beach Energy and Santos, alongside many other generous supporters.

Turns out our dinosaur volunteers have some hidden talents!

Meet Judy, one of our wonderful volunteer dinosaur preparators who has also been carefully mounting specimens for ENHM’s growing arid-area plant collection.

This collection is a valuable record of the plants found across our region, and purpose-built drawers are helping us protect and conserve these specimens for the future.

The drawers were made possible through the Community Heritage Grants program, funded by the Australian Government through:
🌿 Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts AusGov Infrastructure
🌿 National Library of Australia
🌿 National Archives of Australia
🌿 NFSA - National Film and Sound Archive of Australia
🌿 National Museum of Australia

And Judy’s contribution recently caught the attention of ABC Western Queensland, who interviewed her while she was at the Stonehenge Bushman’s Carnival!

From dinosaur bones to delicate plants, you never quite know where volunteering at ENHM might take you.

We’re nearing the end of week one of the Australian Geographic Travel and ENHM Megafauna Dig and what a week it has been!

Fabulous food, fascinating fossils and great company have made every day in the field memorable.

Alongside hands-on fossil work, the group has been enjoying biodiversity walks and excursions to local natural sites of interest, including the remarkable mud springs. It’s been a wonderful chance to explore the landscapes, stories and ancient life of south-west Queensland together.
