Join artist and printmaker Lucy Russell to explore how low cost and ‘waste’ materials can be used as a means to transform drawings into experimental and expressive artworks.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Lucy Russell is a recent Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the National Art School, majoring in printmaking, with a strong interest in creative collaboration and inclusive cultural spaces.

“I am a visual artist and printmaker based in Sydney, working with etching processes to explore texture, tone, and atmosphere. My approach to monochrome printmaking comes from an intuitive response to form, texture, and light. I like to allow the process of printing to lead the image, letting the marks, surfaces, and tonal variations find their own rhythm. Working with primarilly with etching, I explore how black can express emotion, depth, and balance.”

TENDER - Kate Paea. OPENING DRINKS 6–8PM THURSDAY 4 JUNE
EXHIBITION HOURS: 11–3PM WED-SUN

"My work explores a movement from the familiar into something more atmospheric. Hovering between abstraction and landscape, Tender is a celebration of both nostalgia and the unfamiliar. Something continually felt and reshaped rather than fixed.

I’m interested in fleeting moments of place and memory, and how these can be translated through colour, gesture, and atmosphere as both response and reflection. This body of work marks a shift in my practice, becoming more fluid and expressive, with a focus on connection through colour and space.

Across the works, I explore human connection and the quiet weight of emotion. How moments of joy and sadness can exist symbiotically. When there are no words, there is colour."

ABOUT KATE PAEA
Kate Paea is a Sydney-based contemporary artist whose practice operates between memory, atmosphere, and form. Working across painting and sculpture, her work moves fluidly between abstraction and landscape, with an emphasis on colour, gesture, and emotional resonance.

Her recent works shift away from defined figuration toward a more expansive, expressive language. Through subtle spatial relationships and restrained palettes, Paea explores the tension between the familiar and the unfamiliar, capturing fleeting states of place, memory, and connection.

Paea completed her honours in ceramics at UNSW College of Art and Design before working as a graphic designer in London. She now maintains an independent practice alongside selected commercial and teaching work.

She lives and works on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Putting the finishing touches on RHYTHMS OF EXPERIENCE - Sammy Strong () , May 28-31. CELEBRATORY DRINKS FROM 3PM SATURDAY MAY 30. EXHIBITION HOURS: 12–6PM TH–SA & 12–4PM SU

Rhythms of Experience is an immersive exhibition that explores the pulse of life through colour, movement, and emotional resonance. Featuring the expressive oil and acrylic works of Sammy Strong, the show captures the subtle and dynamic moments that define human experience. Each piece reflects an intuitive conversation between gesture and pigment, where vibrant hues and flowing forms echo the shifting rhythms of memory, emotion, and transformation.

Rather than depicting literal scenes, the exhibition invites viewers into a sensory landscape, one where colour becomes energy, movement becomes feeling, and abstraction becomes a language of its own. Rhythms of Experience celebrates the beauty found in life’s fluidity, offering a visual journey through the internal worlds we carry, release, and rediscover.

ABOUT SAMMY STRONG
Sammy Strong is an emerging artist whose practice explores the essence of life through colour, movement, and layered expression. Working primarily with oil and acrylic, her paintings capture the intangible rhythms of human experience, emotion, memory, and transformation, through dynamic compositions and fluid brushstrokes.

Her work is driven by an intuitive approach, allowing colour to act as both language and energy. Through bold contrasts and subtle harmonies, she reflects the complexity of lived experience, where moments of chaos and calm coexist. Movement within her pieces is not only visual but emotional, inviting viewers to feel rather than simply observe.

Strong’s practice is rooted in a desire to translate the internal into something tangible. Each work becomes a visual record of sensation and presence, embodying the ever shifting nature of life itself.
