Gallery Manager. Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery.

A permanent collection. A bold exhibition program. A passionate local community.

Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery is part of Penrith Performing and Visual Arts: four cultural entities, one organisation, one of the most interesting jobs in the sector.

We are looking for a Gallery Manager who leads with vision, builds with care and is excited by what a regional gallery can be. You will join a strong Executive Leadership Team, lead a committed gallery team and help shape what comes next for an organisation that is not waiting to be discovered.

Come and see.

Last week, Alex—our year 10 work experience student—designed this poster to help promote our Youth Art Prize, to which there's just one week left to enter!

This year's theme, 'transformation', invites young artists to explore change — how things shift, grow, and evolve over time. Inspired by the history of the site of Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery, which tells a story of change from the home of artists Margo and Gerald Lewers to its current role as a regional Gallery.

Artists are encouraged to reflect on transformation in their own worlds — in people, places, objects, or ideas. How do things change while still holding on to what they once were? What remains, and what is renewed?

About your artwork:
- Artists can use any two-dimensional or three-dimensional medium of their choice, including but not limited to pencil, pen, pastel, ink, marker, watercolour, paint, natural dye, photography, collage, clay, ceramics, cardboard or a combination of media.
- 2D submissions must be no larger than A3 and no thicker than 1cm.
- 3D submissions must not exceed 30cm in any dimension

Here’s what you need to know:
- Submissions are open to young artists living in Penrith, or who have a connection to Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery
- The prize includes two categories: primary (5 – 12 yrs) and secondary (13 – 18 years)
- For schools, we strongly encourage you to first run your own internal competition then submit your top works (up to 10) into the Youth Art Competition.

Key dates:
- Submissions open Monday 20 April
- Submissions close Monday 9 June
- Exhibition of finalists: 27 June – 9 September 2026

As part of the 2025 Ancher Points program, alumni Julie Scifo was awarded a solo exhibition at Our Neon Foe — and it opens this weekend.

Catch 'Boxed,' Julie's exhibition of new works, at 411 Parramatta Road, Leichhardt, today from 3-5pm, where you can see the show, meet the artist for celebratory drinks, and experience the screening of her new stop-motion animation.

Boxed

Packaged, enclosed, fought, trapped, overwhelmed, restricted.

Julie Scifo’s work is informed by the everyday, employing humour and nostalgia to amplify optimism amid an increasingly dystopic world.

In Boxed, she contemplates the role of artists in gentrification, particularly highlighting how artists can become vehicles within systems that leverage their presence for others' financial benefit, often resulting in minimal compensation or increased hardship for the artists themselves.

Our Galleries Open Early program returns this Friday 29 May

Start your Friday with art and movement in the galleries and artist-designed heritage garden at Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery. On the last Friday of the month, we open our doors early at 8am, offering a unique experience of the garden when it’s at its early morning best, as well as a quiet, mindful way to take in the galleries at your own pace.

Bring focus to your day with an 8:15am class led by instructors from Nin Yoga, have the exhibitions to yourself, and connect over coffee and seasonal meals in the relaxing, garden setting of Cafe at Lewers.

Spaces for Vinyasa Yoga are limited—RSVPs essential. Head to our website to book and find out more.

This National Reconciliation Week, join us for an In Conversation with John Harvey & Pauline Clague, taking place on Saturday 30 May from 12-1pm.

This talk centres John Harvey & Walter Waia's new Biennale of Sydney commission, 'The Heart of the Universe'—a three-channel video and multi-channel sound installation that delves into the profound connection between the rising seas on their motherland Saibai Island—a flat mangrove island in the Torres Strait that, at its highest point, reaches only 1.7m above sea level—and the irrepressible spirit of their people.

Inviting audiences to sit with this environmental reality—the fragility and the spirit of an island being swallowed by the sea—'The Heart of the Universe' brings a Saibai Island cosmology and worldview through shifting images, archival memory, and embodied sound, evoking a more complex and spiritual understanding of this contemporary moment.

In conversation: John Harvey and Pauline Clague
Saturday 30 May, 12pm-1pm
Free: RSVP and find out more via our website

PP&VA Appoints New CEO and Artistic Director

There is just one month left to see 'Rememory,' the 25th Biennale of Sydney, which this year spreads across five venues—from us at Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery, to Campbelltown Arts Centre, Chau Chak Wing Museum, Art Gallery of New South Wales, and White Bay Power Station.

At Penrith are twelve major bodies of work by artists from across the globe and from right here in Australia — Chang Wen-Hsuan; Deirdre O'Mahony; Fernando Poyón; John Harvey & Walter Waia; Keith Piper; Khalid Albaih; Kulpreet Singh; Massinissa Selmani; Monica Rani Rudhar; Nil Yalter; Nora Adwan; and Wendy Hubert.

Exhibiting until 14 June 2026, don't miss Penrith's very first time as a partner venue of the Biennale of Sydney. We've got plenty of programs, activations, tours, talks and activities happening between now and then—head to our website to find out more.

Lewers Gallery is free to attend, and open daily from 10am-4pm.
