HIGH COUNTRY BOOKS is the only bookshop selling new reads for over 100 kilometres in every direction! Situated inside The Makers Shed, Deepwater, we’re small but we sell a curated collection of new fiction, non-fiction, books about making, kids’ books and books by New England authors, including the complete works of resident wordsmith plus cards, a monthly book club and a writing group. For a small town, Deepwater punches well above its weight in terms of community groups who create, fundraise, protect, recreate, remember, worship and MORE!!! Everyone is gathering from 9am to 2pm this Saturday May 9 at Deepwater School of Arts hall which is two doors down from The Makers Shed on the New England Highway. Come and say hi, join a local group, snap up a bargain and get a coffee and a snack!!!

The Makers Shed will temporarily shut our doors on Saturday May 2 and Sunday May 3 while we travel to Maleny for the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Writers Festival, where Michael is presenting Dirt Trap on a crime-writing panel. If you’re in Deepwater for the weekend, check out this cabinet full of Richard’s jewellery and Michael’s books at Deepwater Hotel - The Top Pub which is open 7 days! Browse and have a brew!

Don't miss this week's live performances at Deepwater School of Arts hall on Thursday April 30. Canadian powerhouse Joe H Henry is joined by the fantastic Tullara, with a local guitarist to open the show.

Tickets are just $35 and include a hearty Celtic soup supper, served at 6pm, as well as tea, coffee and sweet treats. BYO alcohol. Heaters on and doors open from 5.30pm. Book via the link.

Some local makers have been busy weaving, dyeing, spinning and knitting, and we’ve got got the results! Catherine Gillieatt Designs for the stunning silk scarves and pashminas… and Handmade By Hannah has wearable hugs in the form of cowls, scarves and beanies… mostly made using reclaimed yarns! 🥰
For those who prefer to diy, we stock award-winning hand-spun skeins by the wonderful Gaye Clibborn too!
