‘From my father, his places he showed me Likajarrayinda coming down…the creek. Up top is Warngkurlarli, my father’s country. The painting is inside the rocks…and these rocks here, we call it….dungala.
That’s why we go there all the time you know, missing that place, looking after the place for my dad. We always go there. That’s where the old people used to paint, before. We look after this country.’

Three beautiful small works by Selma Marrbarmarnyar Hoosan now available.

Painted on silk linen and measuring 60 x 60cm, these pieces full of colour and vibrancy can sit alongside each other or hold a space alone. The detail Selma puts into each artwork, the birds, the cows, the strokes to emphasise the movement of the water all bring these paintings to life.

SELMA MARRBARMARNYAR HOOSAN
Mustering Camp
200 x 130cm

Selma Marrbarmarnyar Hoosan, the daughter of Nancy Yukuwal McDinny and Stewart Karmburmar Hoosan was born in Darwin in 1980.

She grew up on Wandangula Outstation until she was 16 when she moved to Sandridge Outstation near Borroloola. Selma’s paintings tell the stories of her life, of living on country, of hunting for turtle, of seeing her family mustering. This beautiful work tells all of these.

‘When I was younger I was always out in the bush…. there was no need to go into town. I grew up in the mustering camps on my Grandfathers country. My mum and dad were always mustering. My favourite thing every day was hunting for turtle… we don’t fish for it, we dig.’
