Immerse yourself in the traditional practices of weaving in this weekend campout Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre with Gumbaynggirr weaver Lilly Clegg🍃

learn to weave your own adorable fish and sturdy vine fish trap while we soak up some cultural knowledge and yarn about the universe✨

Daily weaving sessions will go from 10-2 with a bush Tucker walk to the beach Saturday at 3pm

The event is BYO food and drinks and everyone is free to camp for the whole weekend and cook on the fire

The Cafe will be open for coffee and lunch 🥪

Wadjar gallery attended Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair this month with 4 other First Nations Art Centre’s in NSW thanks to ACHAA
This was an amazing and immersive opportunity to showcase on a national stage alongside the country’s amazing Art Centres

MID NORTH COAST ELDER’S STORY BOOK
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance are seeking Elders willing to share their story, a historical story or a contemporary story for inclusion in the MNC Elders Storybook. The project aim is to capture the voices of our Elders in a book format to ensure the intergenerational transfer of stories that may otherwise be lost.
The Elders Story Book project will run in September 2025 if you are interested in sharing a story for inclusion in the book please fill out the Jotform EOI below.
To be eligible you must be a recognised Elder living within the four Nations of the Saltwater Freshwater footprint (Karuah to Corindi) inclusive of the Worimi, Biripi, Dunghutti & Gumbaynggirr Nations.

Welcome to another round of bat roost weaving and basketry with Gumbaynggirr Weaver Lilly Clegg at Yarrawarra ☀️

This time we are making a weekend of it! 🌿🌻🦋

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th August

We’re spending the whole weekend weaving in the winter sunshine and lending a hand to our local golden-tipped bat population

As a part of the Golden Tipped Bat Roost Weaving Project we learn to identify and process local weaving fibres, try our hand at recreating woven roosts to meet their adorable batty housing specifications and also try our hand at a twine weave basket 😁

This is a FREE community event 😋👍

There’s also plenty of space to camp out if you would like to stay the night, pitch a tent or roll a swag out by the fire if the weather is good 🔥 breakfast and dinner is BYO

We’ll be weaving out the back of the gallery in the outdoor undercover workshop space and there’ll be tea and coffee available

Feel free to bring some fibres from home to experiment with 🌿 The bats like fine hairlike roots and fine fibres for warmth So if you have roots or horse hair, please bring some 👍
