🚂💨 GOOLWA, HERE WE COME! 💨🚂

Loaded, secured and ready to roll!

Our magnificent 1928 Aveling & Porter H Type steam roller is loaded up and ready to depart Cobdogla tomorrow, bound for Goolwa and the SteamRanger festivities!

But this isn't just any old steam roller - this machine has a very special connection to South Australian history!

Built in England in 1928, our roller was originally owned and operated by the Adelaide City Council, where it spent decades helping construct and maintain the roads of Adelaide, remaining in service until 1958.

Just imagine how many of Adelaide's streets this very machine helped build, and how much the city has changed since its working days!

Now, almost a century after it was built, this remarkable piece of South Australia's engineering heritage has been lovingly preserved and restored by volunteers at the Cobdogla Steam Friends Society.

From working on the streets of Adelaide to retirement in the Riverland, and now making the journey to Goolwa, this old girl continues to be a part of South Australia's living history.

Getting a machine of this size prepared, loaded and transported is no small undertaking, and it's a credit to the dedicated volunteers who put in countless hours to keep our steam heritage alive.

We're looking forward to bringing a little piece of Adelaide's past to Goolwa, where visitors can see the very machine that once helped build the roads South Australians still travel today.

🚂 THE AVELING IS HITTING THE ROAD AGAIN! 💨

After a fantastic weekend at the Riverland Field Days, our 1928 Aveling & Porter H-Type steam roller is hitting the road again!

This time we’re heading south to Goolwa for the Grand Fleurieu Rail Fest on October 17 & 18, joining SteamRanger Heritage Railway as they celebrate 40 years of Cockle Trains.

Our Aveling has a wonderful South Australian history, having originally worked for the Adelaide City Council before eventually being preserved and restored to steam.

It’s been a long road getting this engine back to where it belongs - in steam and out where the public can see it, so we’re very excited to be taking it to another major heritage event.

If you’re anywhere around the Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide or the Lower Lakes, come down to Goolwa, enjoy a great weekend of railway and steam heritage, and make sure you come over and say g’day to the Cobdogla crew.
