'Upcycling Adventures' Workshops
with Jane Milburn.
Create your own wardrobe using upcycling principles!
Two workshops - Monday 17 August and Tues/Wed 18/19 August.

WORKSHOP 1: 'Simply Upcycling'. Date: Monday 17 August 9am to 3pm. $40 per participant. Morning and afternoon tea available. Bookings and pay at:
https://events.humanitix.com/upcycling-adventures-with-jane-milburn-workshop-1

1-day workshop (for all skills levels, suitable for beginners) Focused on hand-stitch techniques for upcycling, we share tips for tweaking garments to suit one’s own aesthetic, shape and lifestyle. Bring along a few garments that you are holding on to but not wearing for some reason. Everyone benefits from a discussion about upcycling options because it sparks imaginative thinking about the endless potential of dormant/discarded clothes. We share techniques for upcycling and implement some within the workshop timeframe.

WORKSHOP 2: Denim Pinny or Geometric Dress (sewing machine required). Date: Tuesday 18 August and Wednesday 19 August - Two Day Workshop. $90 for the two days per participant. Morning and afternoon tea available. Bookings and pay at:
https://events.humanitix.com/upcycling-adventures-with-jane-milburn-workshop-2

Workshop 2 requires some skills and knowledge about garment making and sewing machine ability is essential. Some sewing machines available.
This upcycling process is practical and regenerative and transforms dormant textiles into new garments. At this workshop you will create a Denim Pinny or shift dress from 2-3 pair of old denim jeans (or jacket). You will create a pattern (bring an old sheet for this) based on your body measurements then dice and splice the jeans, sew a front and a back then sew these together. This is a loose-fitting, talking point, one-of-a kind, ‘drop over the head’ dress which is best-suited for those who enjoy natural, comfortable and independent styling. Alternatively, you can create a Geometric Dress using a subtraction-cutting technique to create a simple pattern of squares and rectangles with circles cut out (bring an old sheet for this). You then will make a Geometric Dress from squares and rectangles of material from your stash or salvaged from clothes you no longer wear. You will need about 4.5 metres of similar-weight natural-fibre material with more specific details provided after booking.
