The fame of Aboriginal artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye has elevated her brilliance over the past 27 years since she died in 1996 aged 86. I too fell in Love with her art and managed to acquire about 650 paintings from working with Barbara Weir and her son Fred Torres , her adopted family . Some came from Auctions , some from Delmore , some from people she worked with at Utopia and some from dealers acquiring them where possible le . Two years before she died I stopped selling her works while I acquired 53 commissioned works for a 15 by 5 meter wall with permission from the family , Greeny Purvis and his daughters. When we visited her at Utopia with Fred and Barbara. That huge Emily Wall has been Exhibited all over the world and published in my 360 page Catalogue NANGARA in 1995. It is currently in the LUME Exhibition CONNECTION for the first time in Australia in Melbourne until January 2024.

The privilege of “being there” when it was all happening in the Aboriginal Art World , never ceases to take my breath away when a single painting on one of my walls reminds me of the day I was watching Clifford Possum painting the “Old fellow/Young fellow “ masterpiece I put on the front cover of my Washington DC catalogue in 1992 with best wishes from Paul Keating. While Clifford featured on the cover , his brilliant daughter Gabriella took over the centre spread with a photograph of herself aged 3….
This coming June we feature the awesome Emily Kngwarreye Wall at Docklands by The Lume after Vincent Van Gogh and Monet and Friends took the breath away of about a million visitors. Will be the first time it was shown in Australia apart from my livingroom .

It will make room for my favourite Clifford on the Modern Art -Ancient Icon catalogue . Life can’t get better ….

The colours of my largest Emily Kame Kngwarreye wall seemed to be even more colourful than they were in the gallery space lit by dozens of spotlights . I photographed details on some of the magnificent panels that seemed more brilliant than I had noticed before convincing me to replace more of the roof panels and let the sun shine in…
