We’re excited to welcome our two new Arts Workers, Trisha and Marley Beeron to the Girringun Art Centre!

Our Arts Workers are not only supporting the work and activities of the Art Centre, but they are artists themselves, bringing their own creativity, cultural knowledge, stories and connections to Country to the centre.

We would also like to acknowledge the funding from the Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Industry Support (IVIAS) for funding for our Arts Worker positions. We can't run the Art Centre without our wonderful Arts Workers.

This group of Girringun Artists from Jumbun Community, Tully and Innisfail came to see their work at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair this year. We encourage Artists to come up to the Art Fair to see their work in a professional art space and to get inspiration from the other artworks and artists exhibiting at the fair. It's always a great day for all! Thanks to Sara the bus driver for the photo.

Girramay artist Erica Muriata with her incredible jawuns 🤩 Erica is renowned for her craftsmanship in creating these traditional woven baskets, demonstrating an intricate knowledge of materials and techniques passed down through generations. Her mastery in weaving reflects both her personal connection to cultural traditions and her ability to adapt and innovate within them.

You can see these works by Erica in Woven Together: Undivided We Rise, which is on now at the Court House Building.

Woven Together: Undivided We Rise is an Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts (Umbrella) exhibition. It was commissioned by Umbrella in partnership with the North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA). Umbrella and NAFA are thankful for the support of Vivien Anderson Gallery representing Clare Jaque Vasquez, Kim Ah Sam and Erica Muriata, and Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre also representing Erica Muriata.
