In 2010, local Capel artist Mark Everson and I had an idea to fuse our love for the Australian landscape with our love for art. Focusing on ‘going off the grid’ in agricultural Capel, Western Australia, we set out on creating a space for people to enjoy art while being environmentally conscious. After a little success as local award winners, we approached the local council with our ideas and in 20
14 received their full support to get our dream off the ground - to build an environmentally friendly, totally sustainable space for artists to exhibit their work. So, we bought a blank canvas paddock and got to work. We had some challenging times ahead of us though, we had no outside funding; no existing amenities or similar business around us to compare to; we had to go it alone. Luckily for us, we were a stone's throw away from some of the best wineries in the region to keep us going. Finally years on, we’re proud to present to you The Wiccan Hare, Capel’s first environmentally conscious art exhibition space. We wanted to exhibit not only the amazing art works of Fine Art Artist Mark Everson but keep it simple, doing art classes & art experiences rather than becoming a gift shop. We will continue to improve our facilities so visitors can enjoy our beautiful gallery in the surroundings of the Stirling Estate of Capel. As lovers of nature and the Hares dancing at dusk in our old life; it made sense to go back to our roots. Wiccan meaning to be one with nature and an Anglo Saxon word meaning Wise... The Wiccan Hare was just the perfect name for a place in the middle of an agricultural farming area with history in abundance. So with all else said Mark and I look forward to having you at The Wiccan Hare Art Gallery, a gallery with some incredible artworks at affordable prices.
