We’re delighted to welcome Vic Park to the Woodloes Heritage Fayre with their jams, preserves and homemade crafts.

You’ll also find the Australian Garden History Society joining us for the afternoon and, importantly, there’ll be a coffee van on hand to keep everyone fuelled!

A lovely excuse for a Sunday afternoon wander around Woodloes. 🌿

📣 WANTED: A FEW GOOD HUMANS (HISTORY LOVERS A BONUS!)

Did you see the story about tiny London Court Books putting out a call for four volunteers… and receiving almost 300 applications? 😲

Well, we thought we’d try our luck too. Surely they haven’t taken all of Perth’s lovely volunteers? 😂

The Canning Districts Historical Society is looking for some new people to join the wonderful team helping to care for Woodloes Homestead and Church with a Chimney in Cannington.

You absolutely do not need to be a history expert. You might simply have a few hours to spare and enjoy meeting people, learning new things and being part of something worthwhile.

There are all sorts of ways you could get involved, depending on what interests you:

🏡 Helping welcome visitors to Woodloes
📚 Local history and research
🏺 Caring for, cataloguing and photographing our collection
🎪 Helping with events and open days
👧 School visits and activities
🌿 Gardens and grounds
📱 Social media, photography or communications
🔨 Practical jobs and helping us look after our historic spaces
☕ Or simply being an extra pair of hands when we need one!

Some people volunteer regularly; others help when they can. You don’t have to take on a huge commitment.

Woodloes is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the Canning district, and keeping places like this alive doesn’t happen by itself. It happens because ordinary people decide that our local history is worth looking after.

So, inspired by the extraordinary response received by our fellow history lovers at London Court Books, we’re putting the call out. ❤️

🔨 🧵 🧶 Heritage skills brought to life at Woodloes

There will be plenty to stop and watch at this year’s Woodloes Heritage Fayre, including a live blacksmith display, embroidery, weavers and spinners, and vintage handtools.

See traditional skills in action, meet the people keeping them alive and discover how everyday things were made and used in years gone by.

🏡 Step inside Woodloes Homestead…

One of the highlights of our Heritage Fayre will be guided tours of the Homestead, giving visitors the chance to discover the stories of this special place and the people connected with it.

Our wonderful volunteers will be sharing some of the history that has unfolded here over more than 150 years.

🌿 Woodloes Heritage Fayre is coming! 🌿

Join us at Woodloes Homestead on Sunday 13 September, from 12 noon–4pm, for a colourful afternoon celebrating the history, heritage and community of Canning.

There’ll be traditional crafts, heritage demonstrations, live music, vintage treasures, guided tours, refreshments and plenty to explore.

Celebrate the launch of Johno, the powerful debut novel by local author Kathleen O'Reilly Johnston.



Inspired by a true story, Johno follows a young boy deported from Scotland to Australia at the age of seven. Set against the backdrop of Castledare and Clontarf Boys' Home, the novel spans eight decades in a moving story of resilience, survival and a lifelong search for justice.
