In the days when flats were flats and apartments were only found in countries like the United States.
We can't help but wonder what these units sold for in the Woden Valley in 1969?

No shirts, no safety gear (except for a hard hat), no worries? That's how it was done back in 1985 by men helping to build Parliament House.
Today, thankfully, we have learned to do it differently.

Opening on March 6, 1963, Canberra's Monaro Mall was the first retail centre of its kind in the country.
In its heyday, it boasted many of the big department stores like Marcus Clark and Co, which became Waltons, Mark Foys and David Jones which remains there today, but also about 60 specialty stores. Who remembers Peter Pan's Children's Wear, Willis' Sports Store and Rumble's MIlk Bar?
Today we know it as The Canberra Centre.

They might not look too thrilled about going to school, but in 1957 Canberra, such buses were the only way to go for these kindergarten kids.

School buses were run by the City Omnibus Service, part of the Department of the Interior.
