We’re proud to welcome Mitch Gobel to Thom Gallery.

Mitch’s work is held in private collections across more than 60 countries, with collectors throughout Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Based in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Mitch’s layered resin works explore the tension between control and surrender, allowing pigments to shift, repel and settle organically across the surface. Working with resin, pigments and industrial materials, each composition is shaped through both intention and chance, creating a sense of movement and depth beneath quiet, glass like surfaces.

Influenced by the atmospheric qualities of the Australian landscape and natural processes such as erosion, growth and decay, his works blur the boundaries between stillness and motion, tension and harmony.

To experience more of this stunning collection, we invite you to visit us at Thom Gallery in Byron Bay. While the works are available online, they are truly best experienced in person.

Caroline Jones is a New Zealand-based painter and art tutor whose journey into art began unexpectedly during a journalism degree in South Africa. With a deep love for landscapes and cityscapes, her works reflect years of exploration, storytelling, and community connection — from gallery walls to large-scale murals. Pictured ‘Terrestrial’ 76 x 76cm and ‘High Density’ 137 x 153cm

True to this DNA, Thomgallery is the Byron meeting place where those who create and those who love contemporary visual arts come together. Established as a conversation for a diverse, multi-aged cluster of boundary pushers, united by their values and curiosity, Thomgallery has been Byron Bay’s reference point for contemporary art since 2016.

Every piece of artwork - paintings, sculptural works and works on paper - exhibited at Thomgallery has been personally selected and curated by Gallery Director Alex Thom. Passion for art has been Alex Thom’s lifelong quest and creative impulse. Resisting definition by trend and taste, Alex Thom selects work and invites art lovers into his intuitive, spontaneous and explorative world.

Daniel Freaker’s paintings live in the in-between — where abstraction meets figuration, and absence plays with presence. With fluid, dynamic marks and raw emotion, each canvas holds a tension between chaos and calm, nostalgia and immediacy. The work feels alive, like it’s still unfolding. Pictured ‘Cuboid and Pines’ 110 x 90cm and ‘Forgotten Horses’ 11 x 90cm
