Our mission is to ensure the preservation of Victoria's urban tramway heritage for the enjoyment and education of current and future generations. In order to present the most authentic historical picture possible, this includes the operation of an electric tramway working according to historic principles, adjusted where required to comply with current legislative requirements. We wish to ensure a

safe and enjoyable environment for our visitors and our staff, as we have a duty of care to both whilst they are visiting or working at our museum. Since the establishment of the Tramway Heritage Centre at Bylands, we have built up a significant amount of infrastructure:

one kilometre of electric tramline on the former Heathcote Junction to Bendigo railway line along a two kilometre reservation
tramway electric supply substation
two tram depot buildings
vehicle storage building for unrestored trams
cable tramcar storage building
motor vehicle storage building
Visitor Centre
Exhibition Goods Shed display building and workshop

Unearthed this very old photograph of the Bylands railway station and residence taken in the early 1900's. Of note is the station office to the left, which got reused and relocated as an addition to the rear of the residence many years later. The store shed to the right remained until after the line closed in 1968. The fate of the station sign is unknown. The fate of the goods platform in the foreground on the loop siding is unknown, no trace of it was seen in the later years of the line.

Thanks to our local contractor, our northern end gate has been repaired. We will now secure it with a chain and lock like the other side. It is still expected that the gate will be replaced with bollards and new fence in the future.

Whats wrong with some people. You put up a fence, you install a gate but even that does not deter people. 12 months ago our northern boundary gate was tampered with, the chain cut and the railway ROW used as a public access road for an illegal event on an adjoining property. Fast forward the new chain and lock have done the job, however this time they pulled the gate out of its hinges. Well it wont happen again, shortly the gate will be gone, a new fence with several large bollards will be installed.

I have been informed that Member No 102 - Tom Clark passed away today. Tom and his brother Kevin joined the Society way back in October 1967 and have been avid supporters of the Society ever since. Tom and Kevin were also active members of Steamrail/Electrail Victoria, and were responsible for the restoration of the Dogbox electric sets. RIP Tom and thank you for your service to rail preservation.

Whilst we are waiting for the report from our insurance company from the damage caused by the recent storms. Small projects continue at the Tramway Heritage Centre. Museum members, Michael and Tim have been working bit by bit to help preserve one of our static heritage buses. A small coat of paint does help to give it some love.

Just when we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and reopening of the museum to the public is about to happen, we have once again been dealt a cruel blow. Over the last weekend, some wild and dangerous weather developed over central Victoria, and with it some destructive storms and winds. The result, several of our buildings have suffered damage to roofs or walls, and a number of trees have lost limps and branches. We will now do an assessment of the damage and works required for repairs, some of which will require specialist assistance from contractors at cost.
