Friday mornings is Enamelling Session at Bundaberg Gem Club. We are a very creative bunch.

Our Club is running a number of workshops for Club Members to improve our skills.
This is a double sided oval cabochon. Doing a double sided cabochon is much more difficult but can be used to create an interesting piece of jewellery that shows how different patterns are on the other side of the stone. We are keen to see what this beauty looks like when finished.
Cutting stones differently gives more interest as well as challenge.

Bundaberg State High School celebrates a historic achievement!

Congratulations to our 2026 School Captain, Lachlan Gatto, who has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Secondary Schools Citizenship Award presented by The Order of Australia Association (Queensland Branch).

Lachlan was one of just 13 students across Queensland chosen to receive this prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding service to both our school and the wider community.

Even more remarkably, Lachlan is the first student from Bundaberg State High School to receive this honour since the award was established in 1999.

Lachlan's leadership, commitment and willingness to serve others have made a significant impact on our school community. He consistently leads by example and embodies the values we strive to develop in all Bundy High students.

Lachlan will officially receive his award at a special presentation ceremony at Parliament House in Brisbane, where the awards will be presented by Her Excellency, the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland.

Congratulations, Lachlan. We are incredibly proud of you and this well-deserved achievement!

Lots of Basalt along the coastline around Bundaberg.
Just not the right kind for lapidary enthusiasts.
Our local volcano was great at producing basalt that eroded to beautiful red soils.

The Ancient art of Jump Ring making.
Jump rings were made into chain mail suils. Once an integral part of military clothing. Chain mail suits and armour protected soldiers in battle.
Chain Mail is a type of armour consisting of small metal rings linked together in a pattern to form a mesh. It was widely used in European militaries from the 3rd century BC to the 16th century AD, while in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East it remained in military use until 18th century.
So next time you make a jump-ring think of its heritage.
