Catalpa 150th Anniversary Afternoon at the Museum / SUN 22 MARCH, 2PM - 3.30PM

150 years ago, a group of Irish political prisoners – sent to WA as convicts on life sentences for treason against the British Government – escaped from Fremantle prison following elaborate planning by sympathisers to their cause, including Captain George Anthony of the Catalpa.

The great-grandson of the Catalpa's captain, Mr Jim Ryan, is visiting the Bunbury Museum to share about the daring voyage, rescue and re-present to the Museum's collection a model of the Catalpa beautifully restored by Tim Sutherland.

Join us on Sunday 22 March for an afternoon to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Catalpa rescue at the Bunbury Museum.

Because of the number '6 7' becoming popular through online memes, let's go back to the year 1867!

That's when this amazing picture of Keen's Blacksmith Shop was taken in Stephen Street in the middle of Bunbury!

Come see this photo along with our blacksmith display at King Cottage Museum, open from Weds to Fri from 10am-1pm 😊

Have a look at these stunning objects we have just been donated! An original high chair and child's rocking chair used by the King family in the Cottage many years ago! 😲. The high chair and rocking chair were used by the youngest child of Henry and Susannah King, John, during his childhood years, and was used by descendants of his family for many years afterwards.

Thanks to Lila Farrow for donating these objects to us! They are now back at their original home. Feel free to come along Wednesdays to Sundays from 10am-1pm to have a look at them for yourself! 😊
