“Why is an IKEA frame $15… and my custom frame is $95?”
It’s a fair question. And honestly? We think IKEA frames absolutely have a place in the market.
Not everything needs to be custom framed.
If you have a poster, a temporary print, a photo or something you’re happy to replace down the track, a ready-made frame can be a perfectly practical solution.
But custom framing is a very different proposition.
So, what are you actually paying for?
✨ Choice
Your artwork isn’t being squeezed into whatever size and style happens to be available. We choose the frame specifically for your artwork, your colours, your home and your taste.
🌿 Quality materials
Our frames are made from quality timber mouldings, rather than fibreboard/paper-foil construction used in many ready-made frames. IKEA itself lists fibreboard and paper foil in several of its current frame ranges.
🖼️ Proper matting
That beautiful border around your artwork isn’t just decoration. Quality conservation and museum-grade matting can form an important part of protecting works on paper.
🛡️ Protection from behind as well as in front
For conservation framing, acid-free foam-core or conservation-grade boards are recommended rather than MDF. And glazing with the right uv protect glass.
👋 And yes… there’s a human being behind it.
When you have something framed with us, you’re supporting a local business and local families. You’re paying for skilled hands, experience, advice and someone who actually cares about how your artwork is going to look and last.
So, $15 or $95?
Neither is necessarily “wrong”.
They’re simply different products for different purposes.
A $15 ready-made frame can do a great job of putting something on your wall.
A custom frame is about making the right choice for the artwork, protecting it, and creating something you’ll want to live with for years.
And that’s the difference.
Not just a frame.
A frame made for your artwork.
