A big thanks to the curators Tracy and Brock and the team behind the scenes who then collated, sorted, hung and labelled the exhibition - they did an outstanding job!! Featured Artist : Yolande Clarkson - A celebration of life, culture and community. From its origin in pagan rituals to the lavish street festivals and religious affiliations of today Carnivale is typically celebrated around the spring equinox. A time to ward off the cold and darkness of winter and celebrate the re-birth, warmth, colour and joy that spring promises. Through time and place masks, noise, hidden identities, chaos, music, colour and feasting have all remained integral to the varied Carnival /Carnivale traditions embraced and adapted around the world.   My work for this exhibition celebrates the re - awakening of mother earth and the changing seasons. A move from the shadows and darkness of winter to the colour and warmth of spring. My principal medium is fired earth. Join 15 artists of the Round Yard as we celebrate the theme Carnival Carnivale! The exhibition opening is on Sunday the 4th of October 4-6PM at Retford Park Bowral. It runs 10am-4pm Wednesday thru Sunday.

Featured Artist: Robyn Rumph - Is a sculptor whose work explores character, imagination and the wonderfully unexpected. Working intuitively, she creates figures that are playful, expressive and distinctly individual. For Carnival - Carnivale, Robyn’s sculptures enter a world where the theatrical and every day meet. Each figure carries its own personality, inviting curiosity, humour and a sense of possibility, together they celebrate the colour, individuality and spirit of Carnival - Carnivale. Guest Artist: Mark Kelly - My artistic exploration focuses on Carnivale as a metaphor for transformation. In my workshop, I reimagine discarded metal and rock into intricate sculptures that celebrate change, resilience, and renewal. Through sculpture, I aim to capture the vibrant energy of Carnivale—a realm where chaos sparks creation, and the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Join 15 artists of the Round Yard as we celebrate the theme Carnival Carnivale! My work for Carnival - Carnivale explores the tension between the ancient, theatrical, and whimsical. From the gothic mystery of large-scale gargoyles to the dizzying joy of a countryside carousel viewed from a Ferris wheel, these pieces blur reality and fantasy. Intimate glimpses of Venice’s historic masquerade waters and a mystical Scottish fairy glen complete this journey. Together, these paintings serve as portals into an enchanted world. Featured Artist : Wendi Toohey - I have always been interested in portraying concealment and ambiguity in my art practice, using different devices to cloak reality. I believe it provides an element of mystery. In much the same way, Carnival/Carnivale references celebrations, parades and carnivals where costume, makeup and performance are used to mask identity. The Masquerade allows you the freedom of anonymity through disguise and the chance to embrace another persona. This body of work references whimsical, nostalgic notions reminiscent of a bygone era. Guest Artist : Ella Frew - For Carnival – Carnivale, I draw inspiration from the themes of celebration, colour, whimsy, movement, and joy found in nature—bright birds, jewelled insects, and vibrant marine life.  My practice is deeply informed by my work as an environmental conservationist, where I am constantly in awe of the beauty and diversity of native Australian plants, insects, marine ecosystems, and the broader natural world. Through this exhibition, I aim to celebrate the vibrancy, complexity, and interconnectedness of the environments I work to protect. My hope is to capture the same feelings of energy, wonder, and abundance found throughout nature, inviting the audience to experience the natural world as a place of beauty, celebration, and endless inspiration. Featured Artist : Toni Warburton - My ceramics for Carnival- Carnivale riff on Harlequin’s patterned costume of variegated diamond shapes depicted in paintings, figurines, and books on fancy dress. A clever, witty,  vulnerable character in the Commedia del Arte, Harlequin represents humor and sadness, romance and entertainment.  Harlequin faces adversity with hope and compassion for human foibles. Harlequin’s original motley costumes made of coloured scraps and patches sewn together to represent a simple peasant’s clothes inspire me to improvise with random shapes and brightly colored glazes.
