“It was a privilege to serve as an umpire during last season’s Tina McPherson T20 Cup.

Throughout the competition, I was consistently impressed by the outstanding enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and commitment demonstrated by the players, officials, volunteers, and supporters.

The competition has become an important vehicle for advancing women’s cricket throughout regional areas. Having observed its impact firsthand, I have seen the confidence, skill development, participation, and sense of community that it fosters among players of all ages and abilities. The positive environment created by the competition encourages continued involvement in the game while strengthening pathways for the future growth of women’s cricket.

The Tina McPherson T20 Cup exemplifies the significant progress being made in regional women’s cricket and reflects the dedication of all those who contribute to its ongoing success. It is a competition of which the association can be justifiably proud, and I commend everyone involved for their commitment to promoting and developing women’s cricket across our regional communities.” - Richard Ernst, Umpire

Cricket controversy at its finest!

On Day 2 of the First Ashes Test in Perth, December 1979, Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee strode to the crease wielding something the cricket world had never truly seen before — an aluminium bat.

After just 4 deliveries, England captain Mike Brearley objected, claiming the bat was damaging the ball. What followed was a dramatic 15-minute delay, heated debate, and an unforgettable moment when Lillee hurled the bat away in frustration before returning with a traditional willow blade.

The controversy was so significant that the Marylebone Cricket Club later changed the Laws of Cricket to state that bats must be made solely of wood.

You can see this legendary piece of cricket history for yourself — the controversial aluminium bat, personally signed by Dennis Lillee, on display at the Bradman Museum in Bowral.
