“IRON HORSE AT SILVERTON”. Oil on canvas 4 ft x 4 ft. At last she is finished. What an epic journey, inspired by our epic journey on this train from Durango to Silverton on the Narrow Gauge railway up the incredibly scenic Rocky Mountains. Built in the late 1880’s it was used to haul silver and goods and people. How they ever built this line up the side of the mountains from 6,000 ft to 9,000 ft is a mystery, and that it still runs today is mind boggling. Some of the most incredible scenery you could ever see awaits those who take the trip. The Bay is hanging at Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe out at the amazing Railyard arts precinct. Blue Rain Gallery was named one of America’s top 25 art galleries (Huff Post) I’ve recently realised there is a strong connection of sorts between The Bay and Santa Fe, Alburquerque and southern New Mexico. The Bay is an Andalusian style breed, as are many of the herds of wild horses throughout the USA. In the wild they became known as Mustangs. The Andalusians and other similar breeds first came to what is now USA with the Spanish soldiers and settlers who made their way north from South and Central America. Their first established camp was where Alburquerque is now. The Spanish stayed there for some years before heading north and west because the Comanche and Apache warriors stopped them from progressing. It is such an interesting history and much of it relates to the horses. Here is an opportunity to capture some of it. Artist - Alena Carr
Alena Carr is a contemporary painter based in Brisbane, Australia. Her work blends expressive mark-making, abstract realism, and large-scale emotion — often exploring transformation, fragility, and energy through layered texture, intuitive movement, and contrast. One of the great challenges for a guy who was born before television, mobile phones, cd’s, dvd’s, space travel, computers, etc etc etc is keeping up with the micro updates of everything we use these days to spread the word. It is a wonderful thing to be able to show the world what it is you do and even more wonderous to be able to offer the world an opportunity to buy the work that I do as either an original or as a print of the highest quality. So in order to do just that a new website has been created. It is simple, easy to navigate and easy to engage with my galleries and my master print maker, all of whom will take care of your needs and wants in their friendly professional manner.
