Last chance to see Washed Up by JoJo Spook in our Foyer Gallery.

This powerful installation brings together objects and materials collected from the coastline, transforming what has been discarded or lost into a striking reflection on our relationship with the ocean and the environment.

If you haven’t visited yet — now’s the time. Stop by the gallery in the coming days for a final look before the exhibition comes down this Thursday!

Share Your Favourite Birthday Cake Memory!

In celebration of our upcoming exhibition Everyday’s a Birthday by Donovan Christie, we’re inviting the community to share their favourite birthday cake memories.

For 46 years, one cookbook has helped define Australian childhood birthdays. Whether it was the Duck, the Piano, or the legendary Swimming Pool cake, we’d love to see your creations and hear the stories that made them special.

Share a photo of you (or a loved one) with a Women’s Weekly Birthday Cake - whether it’s a masterpiece or a memorable cake fail - and we’ll add it to our gallery wall in the Library.

Currently showing in the Gallery!

Multidisciplinary artist Tim Silver explores time, entropy, and the space between life and death. Working across sculpture, photography, installation, and video, he reflects on the fragile boundary between past and present, real and unreal.

In this haunting video, a body washes up on a beach and dissolves in real time with the ebb and flow of the ocean - a moving reminder of our own mortality, continuing a long tradition in Western art of memento mori.

AGSA Screen: Wavelength is on until 24 April. Presented in partnership with Country Arts SA and with generous support received from Principal Donor Metal Manufactures Pty Ltd.

Up Next: Meg Mader | Creatures Surround Me

Our Foyer Gallery welcomes Creatures Surround Me, a new body of work by Clare Valley artist Meg Mader.

After nearly a decade living in a shed while building her home, Mader developed a deep respect for the creatures sharing her environment - from brown snakes and scorpions to magpies, spiders, mice, and bees.

Through vibrant colour and layered patterns, Creatures Surround Me celebrates the delicate balance of the ecosystem, where every creature has a role to play - the awe and the “argh” alike.
-
Creatures Surround Me will open to the public on 2 May and will continue until 13 June.

Up Next: Donovan Christie | Everyday’s a Birthday!

Artist Donovan Christie brings a joyful dose of nostalgia to the gallery with his new exhibition Everyday’s a Birthday!.

Known for his paintings of Australia’s beloved corner stores and milk bars, Christie turns his attention indoors - to the suburban kitchen table and the chaos, creativity, and love behind the iconic birthday cakes from the The Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book.

Inspired by growing up in the 1990s, the exhibition celebrates the magic of childhood birthdays, the pop culture woven through everyday Australian life, and the mothers who made it all happen.

Come along and take a sweet trip down memory lane.

Everyday’s a Birthday will open to the public on 2 May and will continue until 13 June.
