Originally used to house the horses for the Cheese & Butter Factory opposite and owned by the Foster family. Following the sale of most of the Foster properties in 2005, the old stables building in the Boisdale Township was also put up for auction. Following a community meeting a committee was formed with the aim of purchasing the building, but due to a title issue the building couldn't be sold an

d in 2007 the Foster family generously donated it to the Boisdale community. and a sub-committee is managing the renovations. The aim is to create a museum to horse drawn agriculture and a community workshop. Improvements over the years include the installation of power and water, new front & rear doors, stabilisation & drainage works, renewed brick work, recently a new roof and interior renovations. We aim to keep the building as close to the original as possible and are utilising many of the materials found within the building. This has been a wonderful community project.

💐 Rustic props and floral displays 💐

The beauty of the Boisdale Stables building is the opportunity to completely DIY your event space, with freedom to use the trio of floral ceiling wreath rings, antique milk cans, ceramic vases and many other sundry decor items available.

A tremendous display of foliage lining the rafters for Telford wedding was a stunning decorating achievement, and looked spectacular on the day 🍃

✨History of the Boisdale Stables✨

A journey of community generosity and our amazing volunteers.

The Boisdale Stables, built in the early 1900’s, originally housed horses for the Boisdale Cheese & Butter Factory which was located across the main street of Boisdale. It was one of three industrial buildings located in the township; the original blacksmith’s building remains next to the Stables.

Foster Brothers built the Cheese & Butter factory in 1900, followed by the township houses for their factory workers, the hall and other local buildings.
The factory ceased operation in 1921 and was demolished in the 1950’s. The Stables was primarily used for storage of farming equipment by the Foster family until 2005 when the remaining Foster properties were set to be auctioned.

The local community wished to purchase the building to prevent its demolishment, but issues arose with the title, and it was not able to be auctioned. The community remained in contact with the Foster family and in 2007 the building and contents were generously donated by the family to the Boisdale community, with the title for the stables building to be held in trust by the Boisdale & District Progress Assoc. Inc.

Thus began a twenty-year project to restore the building to the stage where it has become an asset for the local community and a unique venue for a broad range of events.

This project has been made possible through dedicated volunteering and donations by many community members, an amazing builder in Peter Brown and financial support through major grants from Regional Development Victoria in 2012 and the Latrobe Valley Authority in 2019.

The Boisdale stables is a charming venue with a picturesque backdrop of mountainous countryside. The venue is licensed for up to 120 guests and amenities include self-contained kitchen and toilet facilities. A generous hire period is included for large events and wedding day hire, to allow ample time for set up and dismantle - ideal when planning your own special event.

If you are looking to host your wedding day, engagement, anniversary, birthday, reunion or event - the Boisdale stables is available for hire.
