This weekend marks the beginning of festivities for Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, which marks the beginning of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar which has been use for over 3,000 years. 🌙
Chinese Lunar New Year signifies one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture. As a matter of fact, Chinese Lunar New Year is so significant that it is featured on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list. 🇨🇳
Whilst the Gregorian calendar is officially used Chinese society also continues follows a traditional lunisolar calendar for festivals, cultural practices, and horoscopes. This traditional calendar is based on the solar year which marks the time taken for the earth to complete a full orbit around the sun. Each lunar month of the solar year is in turn based on a lunar cycle which marks the time taken for the moon to complete a full orbit of the earth. 🎑
2026 marks the year of the Horse, specifically the Fire Horse.
