This week the sound museum received a very generous donation from a couple in NSW.
It is an Edison cylinder phonograph dating back to the early 1900s.
We also received a large collection of cylinders.

We have all sorts of interesting objects come through our door. In this case a lady brought in a 1890s music box. Made in Germany and could play the tin discs which are punched with holes. The holes form little teeth on the under side which pluck tuned metal combs as the disc rotates. The rotation is controlled by a windup clock work motor. Another form of mechanical entertainment before the phonograph and gramophone.

SPAT has turned 40 years old!
To mark the event we have created an exhibition which is now on show in the Rosny public library.
We have taken a snapshot of what we have on show at the Museum.
We have children's records and record players, transistor radios, an Australian record display, a Jazz record display, Jack O'Hagan display, a wall display including various old sound recording media.
Plus the story of SPAT from its start in 1985.
The exhibition is at the library till end of November

New feature to the sound museum is a 1906 Ericsson magneto telephone. You would crank the handle on the side to make the bell at the exchange ring. You would then pick up the handset and tell the operator who you wanted to be connected to.
Our phone is connected to another phone in the museum.
