We are delighted to announce the 2026 Cyril Callister Foundation Science Scholarship at Federation University Ballarat.

This scholarship proudly honours the legacy of Cyril Callister, the brilliant Australian scientist born in Chute, Victoria, who went on to invent Vegemite and contribute to Australia’s food science story in such an iconic way.

Through the Cyril Callister Foundation, we are proud to continue Cyril’s belief in education, science and opportunity, especially for regional students with big ideas and bright futures.

The 2026 scholarship will support a Federation University Ballarat student pursuing science, helping them take the next step in their studies and their future career.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supports the Cyril Callister Foundation and the Cyril Callister Vegemite Museum. Every visit, donation and purchase helps us keep Cyril’s story alive while investing in the next generation of curious minds.

From one regional scientist’s remarkable legacy to the scientists of tomorrow, this is what community in action looks like.

"My studies and volunteer work with the Ballarat Wildlife Hospital take me across western Victoria, tracking koalas, echidnas and raptors in the field. The travel and fuel costs add up quickly, so the Cyril Callister Foundation Science Scholarship makes a real difference, helping me continue my university studies and support vital wildlife research.”

The countdown is on with only 5 days to go until we open the doors of our majestic Art Deco Ballarat Civic Hall. The opening evening 4pm-8pm is a great opportunity to view the exciting collection of all 29 exhibitors. Just a reminder that all trains are free and the trip from Melbourne is only 1.20 hrs with a very short 1 block walk to our venue. We are delighted that the local CWA are running the cafe with delicious home made soup, toasties and of course their speciality sponge cakes 🍰 we look forward to welcoming you to the 55th Ballarat Antique Fair

It’s Victoria Volunteer Week, and we’re raising a toast to our wonderful Vegemite-loving volunteers!

We may be a small team, with just four regular weekly legends keeping the museum ticking along, and yes, we absolutely need more hands on deck, but what a mighty little crew they are.

A huge thank you to Esther Hands, Anne Anthony, Robert Delpol, Susan Stanley, Daryl Vidal, John Coshan, Ross Armstrong, Heather McCracken, Daryl Pagan, Helen Watson, Marcios and Camille Reiz, Gina Gardena, and everyone else who has contributed in big ways, small ways and “jump in and save the day” ways.

You help keep the Cyril Callister Vegemite Museum alive, welcoming and just the right amount of wonderfully weird.

Thank you. We are so grateful.

Today is International Museum Day. 🏛️

Victoria is home to an extraordinary array of museums that empower people to see, understand and contribute to their communities and the world around them.

This week, we encourage everyone to step into a museum, explore the stories, connect with the staff and volunteers, and experience the important role museums play in community life.

Tomorrow, AMaGA Victoria kicks off our GLAM-Show Tour through Northern Victoria, where we’ll meet with members of Heathcote Historical Society, Rochester Sports Museum, Port of Echuca, and Nagambie Historical Society.

We remain committed to advocating for a strong and sustainable museum sector — one that ensures museums of all sizes can continue to connect communities with their stories.
