The following is what Jane Coupe posted to her page. We thought it would be a good idea to share here.

From a boring water tank to a magnificent piece of art! This was commissioned by our Centenary Committee but weather held up its completion. Simon White has done a wonderful job incorporating many pieces of history from one hundred years of Bayles township.

We have some lovely photos to post from you all but just need to finish cleaning up the hall and then we will add them.

Another lovely message from Leah Bryant

Thank you for all your hard work on creating such a wonderful celebration of Bayles for its 100 birthday. The community spirit and happiness of seeing people catching up after such long periods of being away was the highlight for me. Standing at the back of the hall I couldn’t help but get emotional at the sight of so many older residents standing to attention when god save the queen was played. It was as if they were transported back to the memory’s of there childhoods in the hall. It was such a beautiful moment.
Our family loved the day.

My daughter loved the tale her grandfather her Opa. (Norman Bethune) shared with her many times about riding his horse to bayles primary school when he was a boy. She was so happy to say I can say I rode a horse to school like my Opa did all those years ago. It was the highlight of her day.
Once again thank you to everyone involved for creating such a fun day for our children and family to get together and create memory’s themselves in such a great community. I have attached a few photos we took.

Many thanks,

Leah Bryant, Andrew Bethune and family.

Andrew is the son of Norman Bethune.
We both said he would have been in his absolute element enjoying this day and catching up with everyone. He loved Bayles and the people of the township. He would of loved yesterday so much.

A message from Graeme that touched our hearts ❤️

Good Evening Centenary organisers,
I would like to thank you all for the extraordinary effort to organise and hold the 'Back to Bayles Centenary' event held earlier today. Sadly I wasn't present at the presentation at midday as I was walking the streets with my childhood friends re-living our wonderful days growing up in Bayles. I noted the photos of the presentation to Jane Coupe and luckily got the chance to speak with her near the end of the day to congratulate her on the outstanding work done to hold the event. I know there were many more involved so please extend my thanks to them also.
On behalf of Wayne, Glenys and Jennice, can I say that we were extremely honoured to be given the opportunity to unveil the plaque dedicated to Mum and Dad; it was very humbling to accept the accolade on their behalf. Vic and Val would have been immensely proud of you all and community that they loved so much to be a part of.

Kind Regards,
Graeme Walker

From Kathy Smith

With the Back to Bayles celebration on we had a trio of brothers (all in their 70’s) visit our home today with some of their family. They grew up in our house from a very young age and went to the bayles primary school. They wanted to come back and step into their past.

They were just lovely. The house was only half the size it is now which we knew, but they said that there was just a tap near the back door (inside) and that was it for the kitchen. There was a room for eating, lounge and bedrooms.

One of them carved their initials in our palm tree and that would be way up high now.

We got to talking about how it’s important for indigenous people to walk on “their” country and it seems to hold a similar concept with how it’s so enriching to go back to the place you grew up, even if it’s completely different but to share stories. They held wonderful memories of growing up in Bayles.
