General information
Founded in 1884, the Art Gallery of Ballarat is the oldest and largest regional art gallery. Its excellent and comprehensive collection enables visitors to experience the evolution of Australian art from early colonial works to sophisticated and diverse contemporary pieces. The Gallery is a focus of the cultural life of this dynamic provincial community and regularly hosts concerts, talks and other events. The gallery shop offers a range of interesting gift and souvenir ideas, including jewellery and ceramics by local artists. Sweet Decadence at the Gallery, the gallery's cafe, has excellent coffee and home-made chocolates as well as light meals which use high quality local produce.
