Stor Ealantais

Stor Ealantais Hi I'm Grim,
I think of myself as a creator more than an artist.

Hello Everyone.
My creative spirit has been crushed into non existence and so until it reemerges I will be closing down this page.
Go forward with creativity my friends.
see you when it finds me and ignites my soul again

Hello Everyone.
I have changed my name as you can see. It is Scottish Gaelic and means 'artistic repertoire'.

I want a do over of my approach to art and craft and I think this fits me well.

At the moment it would appear the SEEN HEARD exhibition is not going ahead due to collaborative malcontent.
I am disappointed.
So I’m going to take a look around town and further a field see where I can take my art.

The wings were coming along fabulously. 360 blank feathers cut ready to be cleaned up and finished.
Back side of wings armoured feathers were about to be cut.

Casting of hands was about to start.

But onwards and upwards.
Life is what you make it.

Cheers Grim

First sample feather.

The blue on the edges is for integrity, trust, serenity, all the beautiful meanings of the colour.
By keeping the rest of the feather white it will give the wings a halo effect. I hope.

Given the interactive nature of this exhibition I will have a jar of feathers and a pen for people to write their own Seen Heard needs on.
These will be theirs to keep.

Templates are made.
Spring action scissors at the ready.
I made the decision to hand write the statements on the feathers.
So it will be a long but love filled process.
I’m going to have them on two stands but also afix hangers to them.
I’m looking forward to the journey.

So keep your Seen. Heard. Statements coming.

I’ve done the math. Each wing will consist of 260 individual feathers ranging from 10 cm to 80cm

This is the paper for all but the major flight wings that are 80 cm long. I’ll be using poster cardstock for those.

I had thought of using watercolour paper and painting them.
But I have decided I’ll get the softer look I’m after with chalk pastels.

Currently sourcing the two stands and the backing boards for them.

Exciting times.

Way back in 2013 for reasons I cannot remember I made a set of wings. They were 3 metres tip to tip.
The showed in two exhibitions, one of which they won best exhibit. Unfortunately in the taking down of the exhibition they were stood on and a huge boot print marred them. So I rebuilt them and for years they hung above my Mum's bed until on moving her to a nursing home they fell apart and they went to that great art refuge in the sky... well the wodonga tip.
This is them.

For the upcoming Seen. Heard. exhibition in July/August 25 I have decided I want to make a new set of wings.
Each feather will have statements on them of how people want to be seen and heard.

Although the exhibition is about being seen and heard as a disabled person I have realised that everyone regardless of who they are wants to be seen and heard in someway.

The original wings featured feathers made from paper ranging from 10cm to 1 metre in length. I want to keep these wings to a more modest 1.5 m tip to tip and around 1 m top to bottom.

Watch this space as I begin the feather creating journey and then the wing creation.

Gelfling stood on my wet oil painting.
Instant bath in the kitchen sink time.
He was not thrilled.
Until this evening when Squisjy gave him a bit of a massage and brush to calm his outrage.

Well on the table in the lounge is this watercolour piece that I’m about to enhance with embroidery.
Hence all the empty space.
