Babinda Museum is an innovative heritage hub that promotes Babinda’s unique rainforest culture and environment, preserves history and heritage through creative displays, encourages engagement with local community, stimulates cultural tourism, economic development, and supports remembrance, reconciliation, regrowth and resilience. Babinda Museum offers visitors the chance to explore the history and culture of Babinda by presenting stories, objects and images that reflect the lived experience of the region and will be presented with stories of the region’s Indigenous culture , the powerful influence of the region’s environment and climate, and the pivotal role that Babinda Mill played in creating the regions multicultural identity before its closure. With the environment playing such a critical role in creating place and identity in this town, the museum design will be influenced by sustainability and recycled concepts.

From the destruction opposite the railway station to Waddell's Store, Beattie's Hall, and the Sugar Mill, these rare historical photographs highlight the sheer force of extreme weather in Far North Queensland.

Babinda gives a thumbs up to… NOLAN!

The hours Nolan put in, AS A VOLUNTEER, to build the new museum display was absolutely incredible! Thank you so much Nolan for your hard work and dedication.

The new exhibit, Life & Land - Farming around the Russell River Valley, is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am-3pm - so come check it out!

What an incredible opening day for our brand-new exhibition, Life & Land: Farming around the Russell River Valley! 🌾🚜

A huge thank you to everyone who came down to celebrate with us and mark the regional Cairns Celebrates 150 Years milestone.

If you missed out on opening day, don't worry! There is still plenty of time to explore this boutique space. Come discover the monumental history, restored implements, and the grit and innovation of the families who helped build Babinda.

While this new exhibition space is intimate in size, it is monumental in history. We have maximized this boutique environment to create a focused, atmospheric tribute to the land. Through restored implements and storyboarded history, you will discover the grit, innovation, and changing landscape of the families who helped build Babinda.
