New housesit, new pet, although we already knew her (being a neighbour dog).

She has gotten used to us pretty fast, but she is happiest when we are both “home”.

Here she is, waiting for Colin to come back from work.

Where’s Sophia?

We’ve been asking that a few times this week, at our new housesit address.

She’s 19 , blind, a bit deaf, and doesn’t move much, but has a way of becoming invisible 🙂

Her owner is in respire care and she has trusted her beloved companion to us. We feel honoured!

It’s also nice to have a cat again, after more than a year without.

Is 2026 your lucky year?

We have had a cancellation request due to a hosts’ health isssue and we now have availability between roughly Feb 10 - April 6 (flexible dates on either side).

This kind of opening very rarely happens… so if you live in the Lower Clarence and are keen to get away for travel outside the peak season , and you want trusted sitters with 5 out of 5 stars every single time… do get in touch.

If in doubt, just ask Leo, pictured here being as happy as a pig in the mud, what it is like when we come around to stay and play 😉 .

NB We do have other options… We won’t be on the street, but if we can help someone by looking after house, garden, plants, pool, pets and mail… we can certainly do that.

Golden retrievers are very easy to please :

Car trips, playing ball, swims, playing in the mud, treats, playing hide and seek with their toys… they have us very well trained!

They are basically big, fluffy bundles of joy.

Paint me! …Leo seems to say.

The joy of a new housesit and a new dog: meet Leo! He sure loved his walk, gentle run and swim this morning.

We already looked after Paige before, 2 years ago. She is the sweetest old soul.

After just having spent 2 weeks touring the Outback and camping in National Parks, we are enjoying the luxury and comfort of “home” in Yamba.

We're embarking on our final fortnight with Tess, who agreed with us that cooling off at Iluka's dog beach, followed by fish and chips while watching the dolphins at sunset was THE thing to do on a Saturday night after a sweltering day.

It's never easy to say goodbye to the pets we're looking after, especially not after half a year...but look at her: Living her best life, being able to stay home in her own environment at her old age, getting lots of extra attention and being treated to little outings like this....she definitely wasn't complaining.

We're spending some time in Brooms Head next, then a longer Yamba housesit, followed by a short sit in Canberra and then a longer Woombah one... and that takes us to late January 2026!

Then another break to see family down south, and then a long series of bookings up to a year from now. Amazing.

How lucky are we.

Thanks for the housesitting requests, everyone. Sorry we’re almost always booked!

We’re on a sit that takes us to early November. We may take a short holiday then…

Then we have one that starts mid November and lasts until mid December.

We may then have a short “break” from our breaks again and start another one on Dec 28 for a month.

That takes us to late January.

We have several requests for 2026, including February and April / May but aren’t ready to lock those in yet, too many variables still…

We hope you understand!

Winter is finally setting in and little Tess, who is elderly in doggy years and has a heart condition and an eye issue and finds walking hard work due to stiff limbs, has told us politely, but firmly that early-morning walks (no matter how short!) are not much fun at all when it’s cold. So, after she did the essentials, we put her bed in the spot where the sun will come streaming in soon and gave her a blanket.

It’s a big thing to look after a pet who the owners know may not make it until they return from their trip. It’s easy enough to give her her medication a few times a day and keep her fed, but it also feels like a huge responsibility…

But, the family can’t put their lives on hold for the WHAT IF scenarios, especially because they are also ageing and have long-held dreams of touring the country, seeing those sites everyone talks about. They have worked all their lives for this free time. And they’re only ever 1 or 2 days away ✈️

It’s also an honour, because they trust us to give her the best care possible. And that, we do.

We also love having Tess for company. Our second long housesit with her and this time it’s for 6 months!

She adapted easily. She is our shadow, very quiet and obedient and has the cutest mannerisms, including playful moments when she challenges us both to “dance” and “fight” with her in the lounge room or play with her puppet, one-eyed monkey.

To see her this contented… well, this is why we never tire of housesitting.

It truly is a win win.

Back on beautiful Woodford Island, our most frequent housesit address.

Sans chattes, this time, which is sad and a bit hard to get used to.

We have had many great sites here, looking after Milly and Ollie the cats, but while they sure tried, they could not hang in there after 19 years on this planet.

Very grateful to still be asked to look after the house, garden and pool and we feel right at home again!
