A Great Morning of Car Clubs at Charlie’s Auto Museum!

We had a fantastic start to the day this morning, welcoming members from both the Stallions of the Highway and the Hudson Terraplane Essex Car Club Victoria to Charlie’s Auto Museum.

The car park quickly became a display of its own, with a brilliant mix of vehicles spanning very different eras of motoring.

Among the standouts were an early Hudson Terraplane, a classic Mini Moke, some very impressive late-model performance Ford Mustangs, and two magnificent examples of Hudson’s famous Step-Down design from 1949 and 1951.

It’s always great to see such a diverse collection of cars arrive together — and even better to have their owners and club members spending the morning exploring the museum.

A big thank you to everyone from both clubs who made the trip and included Charlie’s Auto Museum in their day out. We hope you enjoyed the visit as much as we enjoyed having you!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming members of the PROBUS CLUB OF MOUNT ELIZA CENTRAL to Charlie’s Auto Museum.

The club has been part of the local community for more than 30 years and provides friendship, fellowship and plenty of activities for retired and almost-retired individuals and couples.

Along with its monthly meetings and guest speakers, members can enjoy luncheons, day trips, extended tours, golf, book and investment groups, dining outings, cinema and theatre visits, plus regular coffee and catch-ups.

The club meets at the Village Uniting Church in Canadian Bay Road, Mount Eliza, and warmly welcomes prospective members to attend a meeting and discover what Probus has to offer.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday. We hope you enjoyed exploring the museum and sharing a few motoring memories along the way.

What a fantastic day at Charlie’s Auto Museum!

Today’s perfect weather welcomed nearly 60 members of the Volkswagen Club of Victoria, arriving in more than 40 classic and modern Volkswagens. It was an impressive sight seeing so many unique VW models lined up at the museum.

A standout was Andrew’s beautifully restored Volkswagen Kübelwagen, built in May 1944. The vehicle saw service in North Africa during the later stages of the Second World War before being captured by Allied forces. With a maximum speed of around 80 km/h, it certainly would have turned a few heads travelling along the freeway this morning!

There was also a wonderful surprise for Charlie when one club member revealed that his father had previously owned Charlie’s Ford Model A. This is the same car Charlie purchased and had signwritten when he opened the museum in 1988 — an incredible connection and a special piece of shared history.

A big thank you to Brendan for organising today’s visit, and to all the Volkswagen Club of Victoria members who joined us.

Earlier this week, Charlie’s Auto Museum was delighted to welcome members of the Brotherhood of St. Laurence Banksia Services Carrum Downs for a special group visit.

A big thank you to Janice and her team for organising such a wonderful outing. The morning began with a relaxed morning tea, giving everyone the chance to connect and enjoy some conversation before exploring the museum's extensive collection of classic vehicles and motoring memorabilia.

Banksia Services Carrum Downs plays an important role in our local community, providing companionship, social connection and engaging activities for older people and people living with a disability, while also offering valuable respite for carers. Their diverse programs encourage members to pursue lifelong interests, learn new skills and remain actively connected to the community through activities including art and music therapy, gardening, lawn bowls, technology classes, excursions and volunteering opportunities.

We were especially pleased to host members from the men's activity program, which includes visits to places of interest such as car museums, making Charlie's the perfect destination for the group.

Throughout the day, our guests shared stories, memories and plenty of smiles as they explored the exhibits, with many reminiscing about cars they had owned, driven or admired over the years.

We are proud to support organisations such as the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, whose dedication helps foster inclusion, independence and meaningful social connections within our community.

Thank you again to Janice, her team and all the members who visited us. It was a pleasure to host you, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Charlie's Auto Museum again soon.

Classic Cars, Great Stories and Community Connections at Charlie's Auto Museum!

This morning we had the pleasure of welcoming nearly 40 guests from LINK Community & Transport, along with around 10 volunteers, for a special visit to Charlie's Auto Museum.

From iconic Australian classics to rare motoring treasures, our visitors spent the morning exploring the collection, sharing memories and uncovering the fascinating stories behind the vehicles and the local history that makes our region unique. There was plenty of laughter, conversation and nostalgia as guests wandered through the museum before enjoying tea, coffee and a catch-up with friends.

One of the things we love most at Charlie's is seeing how cars bring people together. Whether it's a vehicle you owned, one your parents drove, or a dream car you've always admired, there's something here that sparks a memory and starts a conversation. One of those stories turned out that a guest even sold Charlie a Fordson tractor some 30+ years ago. while the tractor has since found a new home, there was great reminiscing about the tractors bright paint job.

A big thank you to LINK Community & Transport for choosing Charlie's as part of their outing program. For more than 40 years, LINK has been helping older and vulnerable Australians stay connected, independent and engaged through community transport, social activities and support services. Their work makes a real difference to thousands of people across Melbourne every year.

Had a couple of visitors today at the museum . What better way to spend a rainy afternoon on the peninsula, than looking at cars.

Jessa- A Girl & Her Love Of Cars and I got bored - but not for long! A trip to Charlies Auto Museum in Arthur's Seat gave us something to do on a cold winters day! (Video coming soon!)

Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming the Vintage & Classic Car Club – Ballarat to Charlie's Auto Museum as part of their club social tour through Victoria.

Established in 1966, the club brings together enthusiasts with a passion for vintage, classic and special-interest vehicles, and it was fantastic to host around 25 members during their visit to the Mornington Peninsula.

Our guests enjoyed exploring the newly revamped museum, taking in the collection of classic, rare and iconic vehicles while sharing stories and experiences from their own motoring journeys. It's always a pleasure to welcome fellow automotive enthusiasts who share a passion for preserving and celebrating motoring history.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming the Old Holden Owners Group Tasmania to Charlie's Auto Museum as part of their Victorian touring adventure.

The group made Arthur's Seat one of their key stops and arrived with an impressive collection of classic Holdens, which were proudly displayed out the front of the museum for visitors and passing enthusiasts to enjoy. From beautifully restored cruisers to iconic Australian favourites, it was a fantastic showcase of Holden heritage and a great opportunity for our guests to admire these much-loved vehicles up close.

We were honoured to welcome Australian motorsport legend Fred Gibson to Charlie’s Auto Museum today.

Fred spent time exploring the museum’s collection of vehicles, models and local motoring history, and we’re pleased to report that he was thoroughly impressed by what he found.

For those who may not know, Fred Gibson is one of the most respected figures in Australian motorsport. His driving career includes victory in the 1967 Bathurst 500 alongside Harry Firth in the iconic Ford XR Falcon GT — a historic win that helped establish the Falcon GT legend and marked the first Bathurst victory for a Ford V8. Later, as team owner of the famous Gibson Motorsport operation, Fred led Nissan’s golden era in Australian touring car racing, guiding the turbocharged Bluebirds, Skylines and ultimately the mighty GT-Rs to multiple Australian Touring Car Championships and Bathurst victories.

Motorsport talent clearly runs in the family. Fred’s wife, Christine Gibson, is an Australian racing pioneer in her own right. One of the country’s most accomplished female drivers, Christine competed at Bathurst, raced for both the Holden Dealer Team and Nissan, and famously finished fifth outright in the 1975 Australian Touring Car Championship — ahead of several drivers who would go on to become household names.

It was a genuine privilege to have Fred visit the museum and share in the stories, history and passion that make Australian motoring culture so special.
