Melville Open Studios Exhibition
09 May – 26 July

This exhibition highlights the work of two Goolugatup collectives: Swan River Print Studio and Third Hand Jewellery Studio.

Swan River Print, founded in 2018, is an artist-run, not-for-profit printmaking studio where members explore both traditional and experimental techniques. The studio fosters collaboration through special projects, open workshops, and annual exhibitions, and is home to historic presses including a 1957 Columbian Press and a 1950s etching press.

Third Hand Jewellery Studio brings together contemporary jewellers Claire Townsend, Kate Sale, and Susannah Kings-Lynne, whose diverse practices converge in a shared commitment to creativity, skill-sharing, and mentorship. Their studio is a platform for both personal artistic growth and community engagement, offering workshops, tuition, and collaborative projects.

This exhibition invites visitors to explore the creativity, craftsmanship, and collaborative spirit that define both collectives. Through printmaking and jewellery, it celebrates the dedication, experimentation, and innovation that flourish within Goolugatup, offering a window into the processes and stories behind these exceptional artistic practices.

Exhibitions open Tuesday – Sunday, 10am-4pm

promise to sing for you
Jemi Gale
09 May – 26 July

In her work, Jemi memorialises her friendships: quoting their bold one-liners, collecting remnants from hanging out, collaborating on paintings, and looking back over the rushed and candid photos they take of one another. These new works are exhibited across two adjoining rooms, acting like the bridges that friends make to span physical and emotional distance. Jemi’s paintings hold hands through doorways, and their arrangement transforms into companionship.

ACCURSED SHARING

09 May – 26 July

In the thick of it. Life and culture seem tense, felt in the back of the neck. Are you repulsed, or drawn to this sciatic, obsessive interior? There is no neutral position. ACCURSED SHARING follows what Pierre Klossowski called the suppôt: “How can one give an account of an irreducible depth of sensibility, except by acts that betray it?”

Betraying their interiors, Chandler Abrahams and Valentina Sartori have produced new sculptural and image-based work foreshadowing a metabolic protagonist exhaled out of the internet. Several neon works by Kartika Laila Ahmad diffuse the tension of the contemporary built environment into the imaginary of its counter-utopia: striated and capillary-like neon batons meet steel framework. Thomas Brown’s viscera triptych exposes the libidinal core of breathing-things: assemblages of guts rendered soft and edgeless.

ACCURSED SHARING empties out an attic of obsessional images, a body without organisation.

Curated by Goolugatup Gallery Curator Paul Boyé.

Now in stock at Shop Goolugatup: New Nausea’s () recent release Music for Frogs, thanks to Rockton Records () !

⊹₊⋆

Music for Frogs has been six years in the making. It’s a storied album of a pursuit of self belief, community, and love out from the swamps of grief and anxiety. Through landscapes ecological and musical, there’s moments of joy, humour, and catharsis sprouting in balance of the delicate and scrappy.

Made in part at the 104 year old Torbay Hall with a slew of adored collaborators and friends, playful production meets lush instrumentation and driving grit. Visually, the record has been brought to life by illustrated animation and the communally constructed dioramas that adorn the cover artworks. The record is a testament to DIY dedication and its unique achievement.
