Women's Museum of Australia Recognised as a Museum of National significance The Women's Museum of Australia, formerly the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame.

The Women's Museum of Australia ( formerly the National Pioneer Womens Hall Of Fame ) recognises and celebrates the contribution of Australian women and shares the stories of the Old Gaol Alice Springs NT. It is dedicated to preserving the place of women in history for their special contribution to Australia's heritage, and tells their stories through exhibitions including photographs, artifacts,

audio, video and other memorabilia. The museum is based in the Alice Springs Historic Gaol, and visitors can also explore the old gaol cells and learn about the gaol's history.

Our Signature Quilt trivets for sale - this quilt was made over 20 years ago by the Alice Springs Quilting Club; the fabric squares and signature panels were sent to 342 women who were the first in their fields, signed, returned and then assembled. We have 21 glass trivets in stock measuring 20 cm square by 1.5cm thick. Available to post Australia wide for $35.00.

Women Wednesdays - this week we are focussing on Stephanie Alexander AO.
Stephanie work has reshaped Australia’s culinary identity—bringing fresh, seasonal produce to the forefront and empowering generations of children to understand and enjoy real food. Her legacy lives on in kitchens, gardens, and classrooms across the country.

Her career spans more than 5 decades and includes groundbreaking work in restaurants, publishing, and food education. She opened her first restaurant, Jamaica House, in 1964 then her iconic Stephanie's Restaurant in 1976 which ran for 21 years.

An author of 17 plus books, she has the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1994, Centenary Medal in 2001, Officer of the Order of Australia in 2014, this was for her service to food education and literature.

As a food education visionary, she launched the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program in 2001. This teaches children to grow, harvest and cook fresh food, the program reaches over 1000 schools and early childhood services across Australia. Just amazing!

Women Wednesdays featuring Emma A Beckett 1838 - 1906. She was a Melbourne-born colonial women who became part of one of Australia's most prominent legal and artistic families. She married William Beckett, a barrister, they had a daughter Emma who became a painter.

She studies French, Italian, drawing, music, elocution and deportment and was described as having 'beautiful dark eyes," "vital intelligence," and "innate friendliness".

She became Mother and Grandmother to generations of the Boyd artistic family.
