It is with much sadness that we remember our dear friend and colleague Abigail Parker who recently passed.

Abigail was a much-loved founding member of our Phoenix Fine Arts group, and her warm, friendly and loving nature and humour will be hugely missed by us all ๐Ÿ’”.

Abigail was also the โ€œbackboneโ€ for all our organisational needs, and a highly capable creator and administrator for our Phoenix Fine Arts webpage.

All her artwork demonstrated her immense talent as both a botanical artist and portrayer in paint of our local threatened native species.

Her botanical art students will remember her as a wonderful teacher with a rare gift for creating a safe, supportive environment in which to build their skills.
Vale, Abigail. You were much loved by us all, and will be sadly missed but never forgotten. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ™

Some of Abigailโ€™s achievements and community passions:

Abigail was the ArtSouthWA Vice-Chairperson and an active member of CWA Albany branch.

Abigail was a follower and ardent supporter of CLAWS โ€“ Cat Laws & Wildlife Survival. Collaboration of organisations and individuals, including in the Great Southern region of WA promoting responsible pet ownership and protection of native species from feral animals.

Abigail was chosen to be a finalist in the Aurora Magazine Summer edition front page competition in December 2025 for her watercolour โ€œHoney Pie: Albany Banksia with Honey Possumsโ€.

Her painting โ€œPenelope Possum: Western Ringtailed Possumโ€ selected as the winner of the Threatened Species Evening & Art Exhibition in Albany, June, 2025.

Today we are featuring new member John Coen.
John says... "My work is inspired by the interaction of Line and Colour, as well as the dynamic relationships between people and the environments we inhabit โ€“ natural and built. I explore these themes through a range of materials, primarily oil and acrylic paints".
