In this large-scale drawings on canvas, Letizia Werth engage with the concept of gaslighting - a form of psychological manipulation aimed at systematically destabilizing a person and undermining their sense of reality and self-confidence.
The works are based on key scenes from the film Gaslight (George Cukor 1944).
The images depict flickering gas lamps and the mother's brooch- objects that, within the film, are used as instruments of manipulation and psychological destabilization. Through the enlargement of details and the emphasis on light and shadow, the drawings open up spaces in which personal fears and insecurities can be projected and reflected. The visible becomes a projection surface for inner states as well as a mirror of contemporary social conditions.
