1936–2010
Today, Bruno Gironcoli would have turned 90.
He remains one of the great solitary figures of post-war sculpture. His work resists easy classification. It is enigmatic, at times cryptic, and governed by a visual language entirely of his own — one that he developed and pursued with remarkable consistency over decades.
His sculptures and drawings confront us with forms that seem at once archaic and futuristic, mechanical and organic, familiar and strangely alien. Figures, vessels, bodies, machines and symbols merge into a universe whose meaning is never fully disclosed.
Perhaps this is precisely why Gironcoli’s work has lost none of its urgency. It does not offer simple answers. It demands to be encountered again and again.
On the occasion of his 90th birthday, we remember not only an extraordinary artist, but also the responsibility that comes with his legacy: to preserve this singular body of work, to make it visible, and to carry it forward to new places, institutions and generations.
This has been, and remains, one of our central commitments.
