A rare and historically significant bookcase from 1911, originally created as part of a fully designed gentleman’s study for architect Maximilian Rossipaul. Produced by the renowned Viennese cabinetmaking workshop Julius und Josef Herrmann, the piece reflects the refined craftsmanship and functional elegance associated with the circle of Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte.

The original marked key and surviving invoice confirm its authenticity and provenance. Together with the matching desk, desk chair, and two club armchairs preserved in our collection, the bookcase forms part of an exceptionally rare, nearly complete Viennese Modernist interior. A remarkable example of the close collaboration between architects and master craftsmen in Vienna around 1910.

This exceptional game table was commissioned in 1905 as a bespoke piece by the renowned Michael Niedermoser workshop for Villa Reicher in Tullnerbach near Vienna. It exemplifies the refined fusion of architectural design, master craftsmanship, and artistic ambition that defined high-end Austrian interiors around 1900.

Michael Niedermoser was among the leading art furniture workshops of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, known for creating exclusive interiors for villas and grand residences. The workshop collaborated with prominent architects and designers including Josef Hoffmann and Joseph Maria Olbrich, contributing directly to Vienna’s pioneering modern design movement.

A rare testament to the elegance and craftsmanship of the Wiener Moderne era.

This delicate desk bears the signature of Bernhard Ludwig, clearly attributing it to the Imperial & Royal (K.u.K.) Court Cabinetmaking Workshop in Vienna. Founded in 1865, the company was awarded an honorary diploma at the Vienna World’s Fair in 1873.

Bernhard Ludwig served as court cabinetmaker to the King of Romania as well as Imperial & Royal Court Cabinetmaker in Austria, and contributed as an interior designer to prestigious buildings such as the Parliament, the Palace of Justice, the Burgtheater, and the Hermes Villa.

The wooden surface has been professionally restored—blue stained and white limed—giving the piece a distinctive and elegant appearance. With its refined design on all sides, this desk is perfectly suited as a freestanding statement piece.

This armchair, created around 1902 during Koloman Moser’s most innovative period, reflects the essence of the Viennese Secession — clarity, reduction, and functional elegance.

Produced by J. & J. Kohn and presented at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, it stands as a testament to the groundbreaking collaboration between visionary designers and industrial craftsmanship.

As a founding member of the Vienna Secession and co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte, Moser helped shape a movement that united art, design, and industry — leaving a lasting international legacy.

Impressive freestanding Viennese Jugendstil desk (circa 1905) with nine drawers, accompanied by a matching armchair, crafted by the renowned K.u.K. court cabinetmaker J. W. Müller.
Both pieces feature refined geometric marquetry and retain their original brass locks engraved “J. W. Müller K.u.K. Hoftischler WIEN” (one key operates all locks).
The design is likely associated with the circle of Otto Wagner. Expertly restored and finished with a fine shellac polish, with all drawers and locks fully functional.
Notably, the workshop of J. W. Müller was entrusted by Josef Hoffmann with furnishing parts of the renowned Sanatorium Purkersdorf.

Around 1900, the Imperial and Royal Court Cabinetmaking Workshop of Ludwig Schmitt was among Vienna’s leading furniture makers, celebrated for outstanding craftsmanship and collaborations with artists such as Joseph Maria Olbrich, Josef Hoffmann, and Gustav Klimt. International acclaim followed the ex*****on of Olbrich’s designs for the 1900 Paris World Exhibition.
In 1907, Schmitt presented a fully furnished gentleman’s study in Macassar ebony with refined wood and metal inlays—an impressive example of Viennese furniture design around 1905.

Today, the writing desk, bookcase, card table, and a small casket from this important interior survive.

A refined example of early Viennese design: this side table is a variant of the renowned Series No. 413 by Jacob & Josef Kohn. Produced from 1901 and presented at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, the series is celebrated for its innovative form and exceptional craftsmanship.

The design is generally attributed to Koloman Moser, though a contemporary advertisement credits Josef Hoffmann—reflecting their close collaboration within the Wiener Werkstätte.

The original Model No. 413 is currently on view at the Leopold Museum.

A remarkable piece bridging craftsmanship and modern design at the dawn of the 20th century.

Designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich in 1898/1899 for the music room of Dr. Friedrich Victor Spitzer and executed by cabinetmakers Josef and Michael Niedermoser, these armchairs embody the spirit of the Viennese Secession. As a founding member of the movement (1897), Olbrich created a design defined by clean lines and restrained ornamentation—hallmarks of the avant-garde aesthetics of the time.
The chairs are upholstered in the fabric “Diana,” designed in 1909 by Josef Hoffmann for Backhausen & Söhne—adding another iconic Wiener Werkstätte touch to this remarkable ensemble.
