Ziegel is happy to invite you for the opening of our new exhibition — Many Years From Now by Ukrainian artist Olena Kurzel Olena Kurzel !

What happens to the Earth many years from now? Olena Kurzel imagines a future in which the planet recovers from wars and human violence. Ancient myths merge with personal ones and papier-mâché objects and paintings trace possible stages of this future.

The works were created during a residency at Kebbel Villa (Schwandorf, DE Kebbel Villa | Opf. Künstlerhaus ) in partnership with IZOLYATSIA (Kyiv, UA IZOLYATSIA ).

“How to Host” - new exhibition at Ziegel!

🗓️ Opening: 07.08, 19:00

In order to be friends, work together, and live together, people need to trust each other. In many cultures, there is a tradition of inviting others into their homes, trusting people with what is most precious, most intimate, and most valuable, - the sense of security within their own space. In this way, people demonstrate trust and a willingness to be part of a community, saying, “You see me for who I really am.”

For many reasons, such social interactions between people are not always possible. But we can propose to imitate this interaction by creating new connections and new contexts.

When else would you be able to visit 7 people at the same time? What if there are more people?

We invite you to join this participatory project, and together with the artists: Myroslava Kovalenko Susanna Melem .sue Nora Peierl Nick Acorne Catrin Manoli .a.k.a Dalia Oluic and Igor Kolonič to create a collage of experiences, in the hope that we have much more in common than we have differences.

✨We are happy to announce the opening of the next exhibition in Ziegel - “Stars and Scars” by Sasha Luneva Sasha Luneva !✨

🗓️ Save the date - Friday, 10.07 at 19:00!

This exhibition is built from fragments of artist’s memory, personal stories, and moments that have stayed with her. It brings together both warm and difficult experiences, focusing on the contrast between what feels good and what feels painful, and on how these memories continue to shape the way she sees herself and the world around
The project looks at memory as something unstable and non-linear. Instead of telling one clear story, the exhibition follows the way memories actually return through flashes, emotions, images, and moments that overlap, repeat, or appear unexpectedly. Some of them are comforting, some are traumatic, but together they form a personal inner landscape.

Sasha Luneva is a Ukrainian artist born in Mykolaiv and now based in Kyiv. She primarily works with acrylics, wax crayons, and texture pastes, exploring volume through three-dimensional works and installations using canvas and padding. In her work, Sasha explores the interaction between people and their surroundings, often focusing on themes such as fear, love, the feeling of confined spaces, and memories from life.

This exhibition is made possible thanks to the Kunstraum Stipendium program by Land Steiermark.

Dear friends! In June, we celebrate two years of our activity in Graz! 🎉🎉🎉

We are a Ukrainian community of like-minded people who came together to establish our own non-profit exhibition space and contemporary art studio. Today, our team consists of seven curators and artists from different disciplines with international exhibition experience. Margo Sarkisova 🩸 Nastia Khlestova Anton Tkachenko Anton Tkachenko Hanna Tkachenko Elmira Shemsedinova🇺🇦 Oleksandr Halishchuk 🤝We also have a circle of honorary members of the Ziegel team who help and support us and our activities.

🤲We are committed not only to raising awareness about Ukrainian contemporary art but also to collaborating with the art communities and contexts of Graz, Austria and beyond. We are a democratic and inclusive space that embraces diversity and is dedicated to artistic dialogue, education, cooperation and experimentation.

🙏We are grateful to all the artists and cultural practitioners who have presented their projects and collaborated with Ziegel, as well as to our wonderful guests and everyone who has attended our events.

🙏We are especially thankful to the Land of Steirmark Land Steiermark for its financial support over the past two years in frames of Kunstraum Stipendium program, which gave us an opportunity to organize a great number of events.

Thanks to all of you amazing people for visiting the opening of “Dreams, Memories and Losses” by Olia Fedorova last Friday!✨

The exhibition will run until the 4th of July. You can visit it on Tuesdays and Fridays (16:00-19:00) and on Saturdays (13:00-15:00).

And please check our upcoming events - for example the new Drink & Draw session led by Hanna Tkachenko which will take place already tomorrow! See you soon at Ziegel!

We are happy to invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Dreams, Memories and Losses” by our member Olia Fedorova !

🗓️ 14th of June, 19:00

Olia Fedorova is the artist from Kharkiv, Ukraine, who is based in Graz since 2022. She works with the natural and urban landscapes of her home land and region using topographical maps as mediator instruments - as due to the Russian full scale invasion the real landscapes became either lost or inaccessible to her.

A map as a schematic, symbolic visualisation of a landscape, reduces towns and villages, rivers and roads, mountains and valleys to the constellations of abstract lines. It neither reflects all those tragic changes and ruination these landscapes went through in reality, nor it shows anyhow their resilience and will to survive.

But at the same time the map serves as an instrument of documentation of the landscapes, preserving them in the state they were once depicted. For that reason, says the artist, it makes the maps her perfect artistic tools - to mourn the losses, to reflect on memories and to daydream about her home’s better post-war future.

The exhibition unites several series of textile artworks created in frames of the Project Scholarship of the City of Graz 2025, with the support of Office Ukraine, Rotor and Land Steiermark.
