21.10.2026: Almost the Same
Ortwein-Stipendiatinnen zeigen ihre Werke im ZIEGEL

Das Land Steiermark Land Steiermark vergibt jährlich die Ortwein-Stipendien an vier Absolventinnen bzw. Absolventen des zweiten Jahrgangs der Meisterklassen der Grazer Ortweinschule. Das Programm begleitet junge Künstlerinnen und Künstler auf ihren ersten Schritten in die Öffentlichkeit.

Die Stipendiatinnen 2026 sind Lillian Goebel, Kathinka Susana Daum , Selina Lenhart und Paula Ellmauer pepe.wav Am 21. Oktober präsentieren sie ihre Arbeiten in der Ausstellung „Almost the Same“ im ZIEGEL.

Meist bemerken wir erst im Rückblick, dass wir uns verändert haben. Unsere Räume, Dinge und Routinen bleiben vertraut, während wir langsam andere werden. Die Ausstellung widmet sich diesen oft unbemerkten Veränderungen: dem Älterwerden, dem Umgang mit veränderten Lebensbedingungen und den alltäglichen Gegenständen, die uns dabei begleiten. Wir benutzen, beschädigen, reparieren, bewahren oder verlassen sie. Sie erklären nicht, warum wir uns verändern, werden aber zu Zeugen unserer Erfahrungen.

Nach einer Ausschreibung und der Auswahl durch eine Jury aus bildenden Künstlerinnen und Künstlern des „Kunstraum Steiermark“-Programms erhalten die Stipendiatinnen die Möglichkeit, ein öffentliches künstlerisches Projekt zu realisieren und ihre Werke in einem Atelier des Programms oder einem temporären Kunstraum zu präsentieren. Heuer findet die Ausstellung in den Räumlichkeiten von ZIEGEL statt. Als Mentorin und Kuratorin begleitet Nastia Khlestova die vier Stipendiatinnen bei der Entwicklung und Präsentation ihrer Arbeiten.

How many paradoxes can you cram into a single moment? If empathy is a vibe, how many contradictions can it actually hold before it breaks?

«unboxing» is a conversation, a hangout, and a participatory exhibition where we unpack artworks together. It’s a space to talk about art, life, and the radically different ways we experience war and the endless «everything everywhere all at once» of it all (looking at the Russian war against Ukraine, but honestly, it applies to so much more).

Migration, military service, resistance and resistance fatigue, ghosted connections, identity crises, trying to function while the world is actively shrinking, life, death, and more death — seems like we are all tired from being forced into this endless cycle of post-traumatic growth. But here’s the plot twist — art has a weird way of making at least some sense of it all, and people have an even weirder capacity to find joy and (dark) humor in darker times.

So, we’re inviting you to help us unpack a box of 6 artworks that cultural worker Alona Karavai brought from Ukraine. Together, we’ll unbox the box, chat about the artworks, and manifest an exhibition situation right on the spot. It’ll be a short-lived situation, because let’s be real — experiences are fluid, solidarity is situational, and everyone’s personal «box» depends on the context.

This particular constellation of works was curated specially for Graz, one of the works is delegated performance with an invitation to implement it.

An exhibition dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster and presenting the international ecological poster project “The 4th Block” will take place at ZIEGEL / ЦЕГЛА.

The reactor as a physical point of catastrophe becomes a starting point for a conversation about another “core” — the core of values on which society’s response to tragedy is based.

As we know, the disaster started with the overheating and explosion of the nuclear reactor’s core. Inside this core, tremendous forces were confronting each other, building tension that made the heat rise to an uncontrollable level. In the Core Space installation, we seek to create that same sense of tension through the language of the poster — a dynamic environment where opposing forces meet.

Forty years after the Chornobyl disaster, we continue to ask difficult questions: who is responsible, who remembers, and what is the cost of silence?
Core Space does not seek to illustrate the catastrophe itself. Instead, the project addresses its consequences — fear, emptiness, invisible and material traces, memory, and life after the explosion.
Here, ecology is understood not only as a question of the environment, but also as an ethical position; memory as an active practice; and the future as a conscious choice.
Since 1991, the international ecological poster triennial “The 4th Block” has contributed to an international discourse on ecological awareness, bringing together more than 10,000 works from 60 countries.

Ziegel is happy to invite you for the opening of our new exhibition — Many Years From Now by Ukrainian artist Olena Kurzel Olena Kurzel !

What happens to the Earth many years from now? Olena Kurzel imagines a future in which the planet recovers from wars and human violence. Ancient myths merge with personal ones and papier-mâché objects and paintings trace possible stages of this future.

The works were created during a residency at Kebbel Villa (Schwandorf, DE Kebbel Villa | Opf. Künstlerhaus ) in partnership with IZOLYATSIA (Kyiv, UA IZOLYATSIA ).

“How to Host” - new exhibition at Ziegel!

In order to be friends, work together, and live together, people need to trust each other. In many cultures, there is a tradition of inviting others into their homes, trusting people with what is most precious, most intimate, and most valuable, - the sense of security within their own space. In this way, people demonstrate trust and a willingness to be part of a community, saying, “You see me for who I really am.”

For many reasons, such social interactions between people are not always possible. But we can propose to imitate this interaction by creating new connections and new contexts.

When else would you be able to visit 7 people at the same time? What if there are more people?

We invite you to join this participatory project, and together with the artists: Myroslava Kovalenko Susanna Melem .sue Nora Peierl Nick Acorne Catrin Manoli .a.k.a Dalia Oluic and Igor Kolonič to create a collage of experiences, in the hope that we have much more in common than we have differences.

✨We are happy to announce the opening of the next exhibition in Ziegel - “Stars and Scars” by Sasha Luneva Sasha Luneva !✨

🗓️ Save the date - Friday, 10.07 at 19:00!

This exhibition is built from fragments of artist’s memory, personal stories, and moments that have stayed with her. It brings together both warm and difficult experiences, focusing on the contrast between what feels good and what feels painful, and on how these memories continue to shape the way she sees herself and the world around
The project looks at memory as something unstable and non-linear. Instead of telling one clear story, the exhibition follows the way memories actually return through flashes, emotions, images, and moments that overlap, repeat, or appear unexpectedly. Some of them are comforting, some are traumatic, but together they form a personal inner landscape.

Sasha Luneva is a Ukrainian artist born in Mykolaiv and now based in Kyiv. She primarily works with acrylics, wax crayons, and texture pastes, exploring volume through three-dimensional works and installations using canvas and padding. In her work, Sasha explores the interaction between people and their surroundings, often focusing on themes such as fear, love, the feeling of confined spaces, and memories from life.

This exhibition is made possible thanks to the Kunstraum Stipendium program by Land Steiermark.
