In the autumn of 1889, Van Gogh painted Saint-Paul-de-Mausole from the fields outside the asylum where he was living.
The broad field leads our eyes toward the buildings and the distinctive Romanesque bell tower rising above them.
More than 135 years later, Saint-Paul-de-Mausole is still there.

🇬🇧THREE LANDSCAPES, ONE LANGUAGE
Look closely at these three works by Vincent van Gogh.
Created during his final months in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, they share a striking visual language.
Houses appear almost absorbed by the landscape. Trees, vines and fields twist around them in waves of blue, while Van Gogh’s energetic lines transform nature into movement.
The similarities are remarkable: the same rhythmic strokes, the same swirling vegetation, the same small houses emerging from an almost restless landscape.
They are not simply views of Auvers. They show how Vincent was seeing the world during the final chapter of his life: architecture and nature no longer separate, but united by line, rhythm and movement.

🇪🇸 TRES PAISAJES, UN MISMO LENGUAJE
Miren atentamente estas tres obras de Vincent van Gogh.
Realizadas durante sus últimos meses en Auvers-sur-Oise en 1890, comparten un lenguaje visual sorprendente.
Las casas parecen casi absorbidas por el paisaje. Árboles, viñedos y campos se retuercen a su alrededor en ondas azules, mientras las líneas enérgicas de Van Gogh convierten la naturaleza en movimiento.
Las semejanzas son extraordinarias: los mismos trazos rítmicos, la vegetación ondulante y las pequeñas casas emergiendo de un paisaje inquieto.

🌿 Olive Grove with Two Olive Pickers (December 1889)
During his stay in Saint-Rémy, Vincent van Gogh painted more than 15 olive grove scenes. He believed olive trees were constantly transformed by light, making every moment unique.
In Olive Grove with Two Olive Pickers, the two tiny harvesters blend into the landscape. The real subject is the harmony between nature, light, and color. The vibrant orange sky contrasts beautifully with the cool greens of the trees, creating one of Van Gogh’s most expressive Provençal landscapes.
Today, this masterpiece is part of the remarkable Van Gogh collection at Kröller-Müller Museum.

🌻 The Paris painting that transformed Van Gogh.
When Vincent van Gogh arrived in Paris in 1886, everything began to change.
Painted during those decisive years, Le Moulin de la Galette captures far more than a Parisian landscape. Rather than depicting the lively dance hall made famous by Renoir, Van Gogh focused on one of the historic windmills of Montmartre—the Blute-Fin—transforming an everyday scene into a study of light, colour and atmosphere.
The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes describes this painting as a true artistic “laboratory”, where Vincent explored the ideas that would soon blossom into the vibrant style of Arles.
As Vincent wrote:
“There is nothing but Paris... the French air clears the brain and does one so much good.”
Today, this remarkable work is part of the collection of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires. 🇦🇷

“For want of a better model, I painted myself.”
Vincent van Gogh created more than 35 self-portraits, not only because hiring models was expensive, but because each painting became an experiment in color, light, and emotion.
This 1887 Self-Portrait, painted during his Paris period, reveals a lighter palette inspired by the Impressionists. Unlike many of his later self-portraits, Vincent appears calm, confident, and almost cheerful—a glimpse of one of the happiest chapters of his life.
Even more remarkably, this painting became the first Van Gogh ever acquired by a public museum in the United States, when the Detroit Institute of Arts purchased it in 1922.

Vincent van Gogh realizó más de 35 autorretratos, no solo porque contratar modelos era costoso, sino porque cada uno era un experimento con el color, la luz y la expresión.
Este Autorretrato de 1887, pintado durante su etapa en París, muestra una paleta mucho más luminosa, influenciada por los impresionistas. A diferencia de muchos de sus autorretratos posteriores, aquí Vincent transmite serenidad, seguridad y hasta una expresión casi alegre, reflejando uno de los momentos más felices de su vida.
Además, esta obra hizo historia: fue el primer cuadro de Van Gogh adquirido por un museo público de Estados Unidos, cuando el Detroit Institute of Arts lo compró en 1922.

138 years later… you can still stand where Vincent van Gogh stood. 🎨
In October 1888, Van Gogh painted The Trinquetaille Bridge in Arles, France.
Although the original bridge was destroyed during World War II and replaced in 1951, the stone staircase where Vincent set up his easel still remains. Even the tree seen in the painting continues to grow in the same place.
Today, the painting is held in a private collection, making the place itself one of the few ways to experience the scene exactly as Van Gogh once did.
