“Once I have that visualization in my head, there’s nothing that’s going to stop me from putting it on the canvas.”

For Sonu Murphy, the creative process is one word: painful. A blank canvas is never easy. But then the spark comes, while she’s driving, with family, or hanging out with her daughter, and the painting appears.

The result is whimsical, colourful acrylic work full of island sunsets and sea creatures, with the bold black lines of the Indigenous art she grew up around.

This November, discover the stories, processes and perspectives behind the art.

Every destination has a story. Ours is told in colour.
