In a person’s lifetime, there are moments when something, a subject, a person, or a place, awakens in you a rare yet powerful emotion, like a miracle; a spark that can transform your life’s path or remind you of who you truly are.
As Hakan Mengüç wrote in his book (NO ENCOUNTER IS BY CHANCE): “You look and realize you are a traveler in your own story. Every path leads back to you, and everyone you love or fall in love with is a fragment of yourself… In fact, you are drawn to the piece of yourself that you find in others.”
This portrait is the same powerful spirit that encouraged me to feel its every lines and shades and felt the same love and power that drew me toward art years ago, as if it were speaking to me in endless conversation. The understanding and maturity on his face, the kindness hidden in his gentle smile and deep gaze, became a mirror that let me see into my own depths and face myself.
Seeing the sparkles in others’ eyes and hearing their excitement and specially joy when viewing this artwork was gratifying. I am grateful from the God that granted me with this amazing art skill to feel love and peace of soul.
At this moment, I also recall Mengüç’s words: “None of us have much time. Any day could be our last—how can we ever know?”
So everything I felt and experienced while drawing this portrait, I wrote it down, to remain as a memory.
