A quiet moment in the making.

Behind the scenes at the Calitzdorp Art Festival, where walls are still finding their stories, and each piece is slowly falling into place.

PROGRAM AT A GLANCE 🌿

The Calitzdorp Art Festival is centred around the artists, a series of workshops, talks, demonstrations, and a special performance, all hosted by the creatives of Calitzdorp.

Bread & Co will serve as the main festival hub, home to the exhibition and a space to gather, connect, and experience the art work.

From there, the festival unfolds across Calitzdorp and the Groenfontein Valley, with artists opening their spaces and hosting experiences in their own unique environments.

Along the way, you can also enjoy a relaxed lunch at Bread & Co, visit local galleries, and explore additional experiences around town, including a special dinner at De Krans.

This is not just a programme, but an invitation to move through the landscape of the artists to discover, engage, and be part of something real.

We hosted 21 talented learners, selected from a large group of participants across Gamka-Oos Primêr, Calitzdorp Hoërskool, and Excelsior VGK Primêr, to create artworks for the upcoming Calitzdorp Art Festival exhibition 🎨

The selection process was not easy, there is so much young talent in our community.

The workshop was led by Sharlene Naidoo and Sean Brand, who guided the learners through a day of creating, exploring, and expressing themselves. Each learner also went home with their own art supply pack to continue their journey.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this possible:
🖌️ Watersong Farm, our festival sponsor, whose generous support made this initiative possible
🖌️ PNA Oudtshoorn for assisting us with the art materials
🖌️ Penny, for generously donating art materials
🗞️ Calitzdorp Museum & Bread & Co for contributing magazines
🏫 Calitzdorp Hoërskool for providing the venue, and to all the teachers for their support and involvement
🍎 OK Calitzdorp for providing lunch for every child

We invite you to come and experience their work at the Calitzdorp Art Festival exhibition
You won’t want to miss it.

We are proud to announce that Marcia Vermaak will be exhibiting her work at The Calitzdorp art festival.

Marcia Vermaak is a celebrated South African artist and fabricator whose career spans more than three decades of creative innovation.

She began her journey 36 years ago as a prop maker at Pretoria’s State Theatre, laying the foundation for what would become an internationally recognised career in film and visual storytelling.

Over the years, she has built a reputation as one of the country’s leading fabricators, contributing to more than 60 productions, including globally acclaimed titles such as District 9, Avengers, and The Witcher.

In 2013, Marcia relocated to the tranquil town of
Calitzdorp to focus on her evolution as a sculptor and fine artist.

Her work is deeply rooted in a connection to
the earth, drawing inspiration from the textures, rhythms, and raw beauty of Africa and its inhabitants.

Working across a diverse range of materials including bronze, wood, plaster, and resin Marcia’s sculptures embody both strength and sensitivity, merging industrial expertise with organic expression.

Her work will be on view at her studio in the Groenfontein Valley during the Calitzdorp Art Festival.

This is a unique opportunity to experience her sculptures in the space where they are created.
