KWAMAQOMA MUSEUM hosted a special Tea for the Elderly from Thatcher Home, celebrating and appreciating the incredible contribution of our elders to our families, communities and heritage.

The event will provide an opportunity for our senior citizens to come together, share stories and memories, enjoy refreshments, and celebrate the richness of our cultural heritage.

SCHOOL TOUR VISIT | LOWER WATERBLINK DAYCARE CENTRE 🧒🏽📚

Earlier today, KWAMAQOMA MUSEUM had the pleasure of welcoming learners and educators from Lower Blinkwater Daycare Centre for an educational museum tour.

The young visitors had an exciting opportunity to explore the museum, learn about our local heritage and history, and discover the importance of preserving our cultural heritage for future generations. 🏺📖

We are grateful to the teachers and learners for visiting us and making the day special. We look forward to welcoming more schools and early childhood centres to KWAMAQOMA MUSEUM! 🌿✨

In collaboration with proudly presents a two-day Career and Heritage Engagement Programme aimed at empowering learners, students, graduates, educators, and the community through education, heritage, innovation, and career development.

This exciting programme will bring together professionals, academics, heritage practitioners, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives to guide and inspire young people about different career opportunities and pathways available after school and tertiary education.

The programme is taking place across various surrounding high schools in Fort Beaufort.

Today’s sessions include:

Stutterheim Historical Society Visit to KwaMaqoma Museum

On Saturday, 28th, a group from Stutterheim Historical Society visited the KWAMAQOMA MUSEUM for an educational and cultural experience. The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the rich history of the Eastern Cape, particularly the Xhosa heritage and the frontier wars.

Upon arrival, the visitors were warmly welcomed by the museum Curator Miss Asavela Maqubela and her team, who provided an introduction to the museum and its significance. The tour included detailed exhibitions showcasing traditional Xhosa culture, historical artifacts, and information about important historical figures such as CHIEF MAQOMA.

Visitors were guided through different sections of the museum, where they observed displays of traditional attire, weapons, and household items used during earlier times. The exhibits also highlighted the history of resistance against colonial rule, including events like the War of Mlanjeni.

The group found the tour informative and engaging, gaining a deeper understanding of local history and cultural heritage. The visit also provided an opportunity for learners and tourists to appreciate the importance of preserving history for future generations.

School Tour Visit from Davidson Primary School to KwaMaqoma Museum

Learners and educators from Davidson Primary School visited the KwaMaqoma Museum for an educational tour. The purpose of the visit was to expose learners to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the area.

During the tour, learners were welcomed by museum staff who introduced them to the history of KwaMaqoma and the surrounding region. The museum displays historical artefacts, military items, and cultural objects that tell the story of the Frontier Wars and the people who lived in the area.

Learners had the opportunity to:

Learn about Inkosi Jongumsobomvu Maqoma, a famous Xhosa leader who fought during the Frontier Wars
