The Cordial Eye is a community arts organization based on the Mid-Cape that strives to use the arts and arts education as a tool for expanding the definition of who belongs on Cape Cod and what it means to be a creative person here. We are dedicated to dismantling systems of oppression in our community by creating space for marginalized groups to amplify their impact in creating a more just and eq

uitable world through gathering, experimentation, exhibitions, and cultural expression. Our two branches - The Cordial Eye Artist Space, which provides performance, exhibition, and professional development opportunities for artists, and The Cordial Eye Learning Lab, which provides educational opportunities for learners of all ages- are committed to centering the voices and needs of historically-excluded communities. By creating programming by, for, and with these communities- which include BIPOC folks, LGBTQ+ folks, disabled folks, and folks with financial barriers to access- we seek to create a Cape Cod that is vibrant, equitable, and a place of belonging for all

"I was drawn [to the Creative Futures Fellowship] by the apparent heart of this organization and a desire to know it better, as well as the actual potential opportunity the fellowship presented for me to make something of my practice, finally. The prospect of being able to have resources to start toward getting a career properly underfoot among radical and enlightening peers was huge for me. Especially as a member of a community that has historically been marginalized here. All very exciting, in my opinion. It was a perfect storm combination of loving hopes that brought me here."

Creative Futures Cape Cod was created after carefully listening to the needs of artists in our community about what infrastructure and supports they need to bolster their careers. After our first year we heard that artists wanted more time in the program, and we were able to expand it from nine to twelve weeks and include a track for teaching artists. We hope with your support to be able to facilitate ongoing connections between the different cohorts and help the artists we work with build sustainable creative lives here on Cape Cod.

While many of us are celebrating the birth of our nation, we would like to take a minute to celebrate the birth of our Co-executive Director, Mary George! In a nation that is supposed to be the "Land of the Free" there is so much to do to bring liberation and justice to all. Remember, we aren't free until we are all free.

Just as a musician will practice the same song, measure, bar, or note over and over until they get it right, we see Mary practicing the work of liberation over and over, always growing, learning, and persevering. We love being witness to her intellect and endless creativity as she puzzles over how we can use what we know and love, art and music, to create a healthier, more whole community for the people we know and love. Happy Birthday Mary!

"[Grow into Art] opened my eyes to the connections I can make as an artist, and how I can use those local connections to improve my art. "

When we are working with youth and emerging artists one of the skills we focus on is tapping into our networks to source things we need to accomplish our artistic vision. For the 2023 Grow into Art Showcase we were able to borrow display walls from and disco balls and lights from . Our students tapped into their friends as actors and musicians, borrowed tools like woodburning tools from each other, and encouraged each other to go further with their art. As artists and as community members when we can work together, share with each other, and ask for help when we need it, we can create truly beautiful things.

As an organization, we could use your help ensuring that our work can continue. We have a commitment to radical access, to ensuring equity at all levels of our organization, and dismantling systems of oppression in our artistic community and beyond. Your financial support of any amount goes a long way towards making that happen. Please consider making a one time or monthly tax deductible gift on our website.

To know T is a blessing. is a woman of many talents. From poet, to film maker to Head Goldsmith and much more, this woman does it all. Not only does she do it all, she does it humbly, full of joy, and with an infectious energy. You cannot walk away from an interaction with Tamora without standing a little taller and shining a little brighter. Thank you Tamora for saying yes to Anastaci when she shared her crazy idea to start a gallery and for sticking with us and guiding us through some tough times and some great times. We love you so much.

Reposting from our friends and co-conspirators at
"Please join us for an observance and flag-raising ceremony honoring
the Juneteenth holiday. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 1:00-1:30 PM in
the outside courtyard of the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum at 397 Main Street, Hyannis.
Join the Town of Barnstable, legislative and community leaders, as well as members of the Cape Cod
Branch NAACP and Amplify POC, Inc. and the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum in commemorating this
vital part of American history and celebrating the progress towards equality.
This special occasion will provide an opportunity to learn about the history and significance of
Juneteenth, including the contributions of black Civil War heroes and heroines with ties to
Massachusetts and Cape Cod. Barnstable resident Jeanne Morrison will narrate the event, during which
community leaders and elected officials will read excerpts from the Emancipation Proclamation and the
Massachusetts annual proclamation reaffirming the state holiday. These readings commemorate the
end of slavery in the United States and restate the continued need to ensure racial equality. The
speaking program will conclude with the raising of the Juneteenth flag.
A special thanks to Jeanne Morrison and her family for organizing this thoughtful and locally significant
observance. Her brothers, Barnstable Police Officer Brian Morrison and retired Dennis-Yarmouth

Regional High School Principal Tony Morrison, who are Iraq and Gulf War veterans, will conduct the flag-
raising. Appreciation is also extended to the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum for hosting the event.

Juneteenth, originally recognized by Texas as a state holiday in 1980, is now acknowledged by all 50
states and the District of Columbia. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed Juneteenth into law as
a state holiday on July 24, 2020. The holiday is a crucial reminder of the importance of racial equality
and freedom.

Introducing Sustainable Sundays! While we get ready for our 5th Birthday Celebration🎂, we are going to be looking back at the work we've accomplished and the people who have been involved over the years. As we celebrate our past we are looking towards our future at The Cordial Eye and an important part of that is funding the work we do.
We are setting a goal to have at least 50 community members become partners in our mission as monthly donors. As always, we appreciate and acknowledge that different amounts of money mean different things to different families. Know that any level of commitment from $5 to $500 per month will deeply impact our ability to sustain this work equitably and abundantly. 🙏

Step into the world of Creative Futures, where creativity knows no bounds! Our fellowship program is a vibrant hub for artists aged 18 to 40, offering a pathway to success in the Creative Economy, especially for those who’ve faced challenges along the way.

This year, we’re doubling the excitement with two tracks: The Artist Fellow Track and the Teaching Artist Development Track. We’re shining a spotlight on diversity by prioritizing individuals from marginalized communities, including people of color, disabled individuals, low-income individuals, q***r individuals, and those affected by the criminal justice system.

Mark your calendars for May 31st, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, for our showcase extravaganza! Get ready to be dazzled by the incredible work of our 15 fellows, featuring stunning visual art, captivating performances, and interactive art experiences that will ignite your imagination.

A big shoutout to the MA Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Program and Urban Agenda for making this program possible. Join us as we celebrate creativity, diversity, and the limitless possibilities of the Creative Futures fellowship!

Qu**rs and Quills' Mission is to provide written word artists on Cape Cod a creative, supportive, and inclusive space where writers are empowered to lean into their craft with a community of others seeking accountability for their writing work. Led by , we are committed to fostering an environment of respect, kindness, and constructive collaboration, recognizing the strength that arises from embracing our differences and supporting one another.

We welcome all writing styles, genres, and cultural backgrounds, expanding the inclusivity work of The Cordial Eye to the literary community. Our goal is to provide opportunities for writers of all abilities and backgrounds to seek and provide support in fostering their written voice through guided writing practice, independent writing time, community, and conversations with other creatives. Whatever you’re writing or whatever you’ve been wanting to write but have not allocated the time or space to create it, we are here to support you on your artistic journey. Together, we strive to create a writing community that reflects and respects the diversity of the voices and experiences here on Cape Cod.

We've added another free art class for teens!
Found Object Faces! 2:30-3:30, Teens
*** At the Hyannis Public Library ***
Unlock your creativity in this fun found object sculpture class at the Hyannis Public Library led by Matt Kemp! Join us as we explore the world of three-dimensional art by transforming everyday objects into unique and expressive faces and freestanding sculptures. Throughout the course, students will learn the fundamentals of sculpture, including composition, form, and texture, while also discovering the beauty and potential of found materials.

In each session, participants will delve into the process of conceptualizing, designing, and constructing their own original sculptures using a variety of unconventional materials such as old gadgets, discarded toys, household items, and natural objects. Students will experiment with different techniques and tools to manipulate and assemble their found objects into captivating and imaginative artworks.

Whether it's creating whimsical characters, abstract portraits, or realistic representations, this class encourages students to think outside the box and embrace the endless possibilities of mixed media sculpture. Along the way, they will develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities, and a deeper appreciation for the artistic potential found in the world around them.

No prior experience is required—just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm, and get ready to turn ordinary objects into extraordinary works of art!
