Rifle Sport Alternative Art Gallery Rifle Sport was an Art Gallery on Block E in Minneapolis in the 80's The neighborhood attracted a broad cross-section of punks, artists, and musicians.

Rifle Sport Gallery was open from 1985 to 1988 in the Block E segment of Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, USA. It was considered an underground component of the Minneapolis art scene and is fondly remembered by many. The gallery was located on the second floor of a 2-story building located at the corner of Hennepin Avenue and North Sixth Street, across Hennepin from City Center and upstair

s from Shinder's Newsstand. The gallery was only accessible by a long flight of stairs, behind a blue entrance door on Hennepin Avenue. The gallery was near a busy pedestrian intersection that included a bus stop, activity on Block E, and passersby of the North Loop neighborhood in Minneapolis. Block E was also notorious for attracting criminals, vagrants, and alcoholics. In the three years it was open, around 130 artists, musicians and performance artists used the space. Artists from around the USA had early work in this gallery. Rifle Sport Gallery was one of many galleries downtown, but it was often open late at night. The building that housed Rifle Sport was demolished with the rest of Block E in 1988. The gallery initially lived on after the demolition, moving near Loring Park, but was closed after a year. The gallery was named after the defunct arcade (whose signage remained) which previously occupied the space. An unrelated local band Rifle Sport established their name in 1981.

KFAI is an independent radio station that has survived the corporate controlled, ever-increasingly stagnant sameness of commercial media for 46 years, since 1978. I have been fortunate to be involved since 1985. I think it gets lost in all the hype, that the individual creative DJ being able to play the music we like for people, and present this on a worldwide level, is a really fun and very unique experience, and is quite an accomplishment by itself. That we’ve been doing it through pledge drives and community support is even more remarkable. And who might this community be? Those of you listening? The 80 plus DJ’s? So many off-air volunteers and those contributing their skills and content? Well… the answer is… yes. The community is us and we are the community. KFAI has pledge drives twice yearly. If you’d like to support KFAI in any amount you choose, during its pledge drive, you can do so in a number of easy and convenient ways:
Use the prominent DONATE button on our website at KFAI DOT ORG
Use the SUPPORT US button on the easy-to-use & free phone app.
I'd be very happy if you could donate and mention my program MOONDALE, part of Heavy Rotation. Thank you and Please stay tuned.
